The repainting of more than 2,500 meters of bicycle lanes will guarantee the safety of its users (27/05/2020)

| These tasks are already beginning to be carried out on Avenida de Los Pinos, Ciudad de Aranjuez and Príncipe de Asturias | The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has visited Los Pinos Avenue where the Cycle Safety Improvement Plan has begun, which will enhance the display of signage, increasing the safety of cyclists.In this way, the horizontal signage will be renewed with anti-slip paint and high visibility for a total of 2,575 meters of bicycle lanes in the municipality, repainting the delimitation of lanes in addition to 600 square meters in bus stop checkers and 250 square meters of symbolism of bicivias in red color.Councilor Rebeca Pérez has indicated that "these actions allow us to keep our bike lanes in good condition, guaranteeing adequate signage that provides safety to users, an initiative framed within an ambitious Mobility Plan in which we take a further step in development of our city model, opting to give more space to pedestrian and bicycle movements, thus prioritizing sustainable mobility as a common means of transport in the municipality.

"Specifically, on Los Pinos Avenue, work is being done on repainting 700 meters of bicycle lanes and symbols with 8 units of bicycle symbols and 48 units of indicative arrows.925 meters of bicycle lane are being repainted on Ciudad de Aranjuez Avenue, with about 95 m2 of paint in symbology: 32 bicycle units and 40 units of indicative arrows.

In addition, 1,700 m2 have previously been cleared and swept.These tasks will also be carried out on the bike path of Avenida Príncipe de Asturias, 950 meters long, in sections of green and others in red.

Likewise, 97 m2 of paint will be improved in symbology with 22 units of bikes and 26 units of arrows.Likewise, 600 m2 will be painted in bus stop checkers and 250 m2 of bicycle symbolism in red.The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has indicated that "with this plan we seek to guarantee the safety of our cyclists and renew this horizontal signaling that is subject to continuous wear and tear due to the action of road traffic and atmospheric and climatological elements "400 new bike racks and 5 new bike lanesIn the last two years, more than 400 new bike racks have been installed and new bike lanes have been opened to traffic:Cycle lane from Plaza Circular to FICA; connections with Avenues Juan Carlos I, Juan de Borbón and AbenarabiCycle lane from Pasarela Manterola to Plaza Circular and from Plaza Díez de Revenga to Avenida de los PinosCycle lane in the surroundings of the Historic Center of Murcia, Phase 1.Cycle lane in Avenida Rector Loustau, Obispo Frutos and Ronda GarayCycle lane in Ronda Sur and connection with Avenida Pío BarojaIt must be remembered that the Governing Board of May 15 approved the specifications for the hiring of the service for the maintenance and conservation of the bicycle lanes and bicycle infrastructure of the municipality.The objective is to keep it in a perfect state of use and avoid damage that may occur in the network of bicycle lanes and bicycle infrastructures existing in the urban area and districts.Thus, this service will work on the maintenance of bicycle lanes, cycle paths, fork and closed bike racks and the horizontal and vertical signaling of bicycle infrastructures to guarantee the safety of cyclists and pedestrians who transit on public roads.The City Council will invest a total of 100,000 euros in this service for a period of one year.What is intended is to achieve a faster, coordinated and efficient management of the maintenance work of public bicycle infrastructures, reduce the overall cost of maintenance through an open competitive process between companies specialized in the matter and improve the state for the conservation of bike lanes and public bicycle infrastructure.Very urgent work will begin to be repaired within a maximum period of 6 hours, urgent work in two days and ordinary work in four days.
