Five municipal buildings are certified for the efficient use of energy management (21/05/2020)

| José Guillén and Mercedes Bernabé participate in the placement of the AENOR ISO 5000 certification plaque, which has taken place in the Hall of the Moneo Building | The Murcia City Council received the ISO 50001 certification from the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR) last January for the energy management of five of its municipal buildings: Town Hall, Abenarabi's Multiple Use Building, the Economic Services building from Plaza Europa, the Local Development Agency and the Moneo Building. The councilors for Urban Development and Administration Modernization, José Guillén, and Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, participated this morning in the placement of the plaque in the hall of the Moneo Building, which recognizes efficiency management energy carried out by the City Council. The ISO 50001 standard is the international standard that certifies Energy Management Systems.

It is, therefore, a guarantee that the implemented Energy Management System is effective."The City Council, as a local administration close to the citizen, began its journey in 2008 with the accession to the Covenant of Mayors and its subsequent update, committing ourselves to reducing CO2 emissions by 40%", explains José Guillén, who adds that "this line is of vital importance in energy saving, so we decided to start with our own facilities, reducing consumption and being more energy efficient.

"European Project H2020The Consistory achieved this certification through the European Project H2020 COMPETE4SECAP, through collaboration between the European Program Service, the Smart Murcia Office, the Department of Industrial Engineering and the Murcia Local Energy Agency."This recognition represents the good work carried out during this time by the City Council, a certification that very few consistories have," says Mercedes Bernabé.

The mayor recalls that “Murcia, as a pilot for the implementation of said certification, attracted the attention of the International Urban Cooperation (IUC), receiving the visit of a delegation from Guelph (Canada) and Rijeka (Croatia) to advise them on their process of implantation".Implementation processThe project began in January 2019, together with the Eurovértices consultancy, as an adviser to the implementation process, in the five most representative buildings of the City Council: Town Hall, Abenarabi's Multiple Use building, the Economic Services building in Plaza Europa , the Local Development Agency and the Moneo Building.Subsequently, a work team was formed with the different services and councils and, under the standards set by the ISO, an investigation process was started in reference to billing in recent years, energy audits, maintenance services and consumption detection and deficiencies.Likewise, a series of trainings were carried out for municipal workers in the area of ??energy efficiency and climate change, with great success in participation.Main resultsIn addition to being able to detect deficiencies in consumption and investment priorities, it has been possible to save 5% in electricity consumption in such buildings (136,344 kilowatts per hour), assuming a decrease in emissions of more than 56 tons of CO2 emitted to the atmosphere, and a saving of 20,000 euros.
