The City Council improves the road safety of the Alcantarilla highway with the installation of new low-consumption lights (19/05/2020)

| This work involves avoiding the emission of 69,360 kilos of CO2 into the atmosphere and an annual economic saving of 19,620 euros | The City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Administration Modernization, continues with the work of improving public lighting in different streets and districts of the municipality of Murcia, within the Murcia Smart City strategy.Councilor José Guillén, head of the Public Lighting Service, visited this morning the actions that are being undertaken on the Alcantarilla road, where new low-consumption lighting fixtures are being installed."This is an important action to improve the safety of this artery that connects the center of the city of Murcia with Alcantarilla and is used daily by residents of Nonduermas, Era Alta, Puebla de Soto, Barriomar, Rincón de Seca and La Raya ”, explains José Guillén.Specifically, the lighting of this avenue is being renovated with the installation of new LED technology light points.

In this way, the street will go from having a power of 62,150 kilowatts to 16,950, which means reducing the emission of 69,360 kilos of CO2 into the atmosphere and an annual economic saving of 19,620 euros.More visibility in rainy situationsLikewise, with these actions, visibility is improved by 40% in normal conditions and 80% in rainy situations, with respect to what was installed."We continue with these actions that, in addition to contributing to the fight against climate change and cleaner air, provide more security to our avenues, making them more visible, both for pedestrians and for the drivers who pass through them," emphasizes the councilman.More than 4,000 new points of light in the last yearThe Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration has renewed in the last year a total of 4,157 points of light distributed in 188 locations in Murcia and districts.Specifically, it involves 1,878 luminaires and 2,279 lamps with which it has been possible to reduce the emission of 751,257 Kg of CO2 into the atmosphere and save 212,477 euros.These works have been carried out in: Barrio del Progreso, Patiño, Beniaján, Los Dolores, Llano de Brujas, Los Ramos, El Esparragal, Cobatillas, Santo Ángel, El Puntal, Espinardo, El Palmar, Los Garres, La Albatalía, Sangonera la Verde, Corvera, La Murta, Cañada Hermosa, Algezares, El Palmar, Aljucer, La Arboleja, Cabezo de Torres, Puente Tocinos, Guadalupe, Rincón de Seca, La Raya, Puebla de Soto and Monteagudo, in addition to the town urban of Murcia.Special lamp cleaning and disinfection deviceThe Public Lighting Service continues this week with the device for cleaning, disinfecting and removing advertising from streetlight supports throughout the different districts and neighborhoods of the municipality.Specifically, this week we are working in Los Dolores, Patiño, Santiago el Mayor, Zarandona, Barrio del Progreso, Casillas, Santo Ángel and Monteagudo.Six work teams are responsible for carrying out these tasks: two of them have a 100-liter capacity tank mounted on a van and the other four have manual fumigation systems.

The disinfection of the supports is carried out by spraying with sodium hypochlorite, diluted 0.5% in water, at a height of two meters.
