Martínez-Oliva: "We are working to close a draft budget that prioritizes spending on social care and promoting economic activity" (06/05/2020)

The Councilor for Citizen Security and Economic Management, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, has indicated that "in the face of the new situation caused by the coronavirus, the preparation of a new draft of budgets has been made necessary since the existing one was based on the situation prior to the COVID-19 crisis ”."We are working to close a draft that serves as a debate to reach an agreement with our government partners as soon as possible, based on prioritizing spending on social care and promoting economic activity, safeguarding compliance with the contracts that this administration has in force and with public officials ”, Martínez-Oliva pointed out.The councilor stressed that "the income expected a few months ago will suffer a significant decrease due to the tax measures that will be adopted in favor of Murcia and the expected slowdown in economic activity.

Let us not forget that local tax revenues from local administrations such as capital gains and ICIO will go down, in addition to our share of state revenues and taxes such as hydrocarbons, tobacco, alcohol ...

"Martínez-Oliva has stated that “we are working on this at the moment and I have already stated this to the spokesperson for the Ciudadanos group.

I hope we will get into these as soon as possible and not other issues.

"“To this day and despite repeated requests from the FEMP, local governments have not received a single euro of aid from the central executive.

There is unanimity of the municipalities to enable, as with the autonomous communities, a fund of 5,000 million euros of direct aid to alleviate these falls in income and allow to cover the increase in expenses that the social and economic reconstruction is going to suppose ”, explained the mayor. The councilman concluded by saying that "if we had this support, it would be much easier to close municipal budgets and more efficiently meet the needs of our neighbors."
