The PSOE achieves the necessary support to expand the Social Services workforce, telecare for those over 80 and dining room scholarships (30/04/2020)

| Serrano assures that "we hope to see very soon the fruits of the approved motions because they have been designed to improve the care and assistance to the most vulnerable groups: children, families in situations of social exclusion and the elderly "| It has also been agreed to hold the Local Trade Council as quickly as possible to establish the measures that allow this sector to emerge from the crisis During the plenary session held this morning at the Murcia City Council, the Municipal Socialist Group managed to support almost all of its own and joint motions, "the results of which we hope to see very soon because they have been designed to improve care and assistance to the most vulnerable groups.

: children, families in a situation of social exclusion and the elderly, "said the socialist spokesman, José Antonio Serrano, who referred to the unusual plenary session due to the security measures imposed by the COVID19 pandemic and in which only Spokesmen and the presidency were present while the rest of the councilors followed him electronically. Likewise, he has highlighted the majority support for the socialist proposals, "which have had the support of Cs, which is part of the municipal government, while PP and the extreme right are left alone in rejecting the increase in dining room scholarships and in the speech against nursing homes, using erroneous and confusing data.

" In this sense, it has been approved by a majority of the Plenary to increase the Social Services workforce to reach the ratio of one social worker for every 3,000 people, especially because if before the pandemic the risk of social exclusion was around 37 % and twelve out of a hundred families had gone to Social Services, all indications are that after this crisis those numbers are going to increase considerably.

In addition, currently, social workers do not have time to intervene or to carry out preventive actions, since they are completely dedicated to the processing of files. Likewise, the Socialist Group has obtained the approval of the motion that claims to provide the telecare service to those over 80 years old, as a measure of prevention against loneliness and isolation, which is one of the main risks for this group. The motion, presented by PSOE and Podemos-Equo, to extend the dining room scholarships to schoolchildren in the municipality has also obtained the majority of the Plenary session with contributions from Cs, and despite opposition from the PP and the extreme right.

Precisely, yesterday the Government of Spain announced that it was going to invest a million euros in school canteen aid for this summer, so the rest of the administrations, including the regional one but also the local one, have to make all possible efforts so that no one is left behind, even less the minors. On the other hand, it has been approved to convene the Local Trade Council as the competent body to decide the most appropriate measures to help trade to get out of this crisis and not abandon this important economic sector.

At the request of the PSOE, the mayor has promised to hold this Council as quickly as possible. Finally, the approval of the Contingency Fund and the granting of the following titles have also been approved: Adoptive Daughter of Murcia for the poet Dionisia García, Silver Medal for the Coral Discantus, Favorite Daughter for the athlete Laura Gil and the Gold Medal for companies, organizations and institutions that worked during the DANA episode.
