PSOE and Podemos-Equo ask to provide the social services with enough personnel, especially in anticipation of the situation after the COVID1l9 (29/04/2020)

| Both formations consider that the workers are overwhelmed, so that their ability to intervene in a comprehensive way with its users is very limited | Currently, the ratio of the municipality of Murcia is 12,000 people per social worker, which is far from the ratio recommended by the General Council of Social Work, which is one per 3,000 inhabitants. The municipal groups of PSOE and Podemos-Equo will defend in the next plenary session of the Murcia City Council on Thursday a joint motion to propose a substantial increase in personnel for Social Services, because "if, before the pandemic, the situation was worrying, a Once it passes, it will be more pressing.

" The councilors Esther Nevado, of the PSOE, and Clara Martínez, of Podemos-Equo, warn that the report on the situation of Social Services in the Local Entities of the Region of Murcia, it is estimated that the ratio of the municipality of Murcia is in the 12,000 citizens per social worker, which is far from that recommended by the General Council of Social Work, which is one social worker per 3,000 inhabitants. In this regard, they add that, according to the latest report from the Social Services, 12 of every 100 families registered in the municipality have been treated in the municipal area of ??Murcia, that is, 19,145 families, representing 31,175 direct users. This was the situation before the COVID19 pandemic, however, "everything points to an increase in requests for financial aid, as is already happening in recent weeks." For all these reasons, "it is necessary for the human resources policy of the Department of Social Welfare to move towards ratios that allow social workers to develop all of their professional skills and not see themselves, as is the current reality, surpassed by Aid management and processing tasks, being its ability to intervene in a comprehensive way with its users very limited ". In addition, they recall that the last public call for employment dates from 2012 and highlight the immense work that the current workers are doing despite the working conditions in which not only lack personnel, but also material resources.

"Of course it is a sensitive service that must be protected and provided with all the necessary means." Therefore, both formations request the Plenary to expand the staff of social workers dedicated to primary care in order to lower the ratios they currently support, walking, as far as possible, to those recommended by the General Council of Social Work of Spain and guarantee the continuity of the 12 social worker positions that will be hired for 8 months with a charge to the credits received from the central government, increasing the budget line for this purpose in the 2020 municipal budgets in order to have a template that reaches the last person who needs it.
