The International Folklore Festival in the Mediterranean has been suspended for the first time in its history (23/04/2020)

| This festival is the oldest of those celebrated in Spain and in this edition four international groups were scheduled to participate | The Department of Culture and Heritage Recovery has decided to suspend the 53rd edition of the International Folklore Festival in the Mediterranean, which was scheduled to take place from June 25 to 28.This is the first time in history that this festival, which is the oldest of all those held in Spain, has been suspended, since the first edition was in 1967.This year, four international groups from Serbia, Colombia, Guinea-Bissau and Italy were going to participate. In addition, two nationals, from Zamora and Badajoz, three from the city of Murcia (Virgin de la Vega Group of Choirs and Dances, Francisco Salzillo Association and a group from the Federation of Peñas Huertanas) and one from Cartagena were going to perform. The festival is structured in different blocks: groups that dance in different streets and squares of the city of Murcia inviting the public to participate and dance, groups of choirs and dances that dance on the stage where the festival is located in the Plaza de Belluga; an exhibition that complements the festival with the exhibition of works or elements of the Murcian tradition for its maintenance and recovery, which this year was dedicated to castanets from all over Spain; studies and papers on folklore that generate a seminar and a database for folklore researchers, the Trasnochando cycle.
