The municipal bicycle rental service MuyBici will reopen next Wednesday, April 29 (22/04/2020)

| The City Council is launching a Plan to promote bicycle use during and after the coronavirus pandemic | The councilor for Sustainable Development and Youth, Rebeca Pérez and vice-president of the Network of Cities for the bicycle, has participated this week in the First Virtual Board of Directors of the Network of Cities for the Bicycle, a meeting where a plan has been presented and approved shock to continue promoting sustainable, healthy and safe mobility through the use of bicycles during and after the coronavirus pandemic.This initiative contemplates different measures such as promoting the tactical expansion of urban cycling networks and connections with neighboring municipalities, with the aim of creating safe spaces for circulation and facilitating social distancing, reopening public bicycle services, adjusting supply to demand planned, reinforcing the cleaning and disinfection measures for bicycles and facilities and promoting the mandatory use of gloves among users and establishing traffic light coordination measures to avoid the accumulation of bicycles and pedestrians waiting at crossings.Likewise, the Network will request the state government and the autonomous communities to launch an urgent aid plan for the purchase of electric and mechanical bicycles, and the Directorate General of Traffic will be urged to expedite the updating of the regulations regarding the bicycle and adapt quickly to the new times and social changes expected, to facilitate safe bicycle mobility and to promote the use of cycling as a priority means, as the Government is proposing.Likewise, it is requested that the projects that promote the economy that are promoted in the coming months specifically contemplate the projects that favor the use of the bicycle and the regional and local governments are urged to decisively promote education and road training in the use of the bicycle in schools, institutes and for the general population.For this reason, the City Council has already taken the first measure, which is to reopen the public bike rental service Muybici next Wednesday, April 29.This reactivation of the service will be carried out with the following preventive measures against COVID19:- Daily cleaning and disinfection of bicycles and stations will be carried out in accordance with the recommendations established by the Ministry of Health.- All the subscribers will be indicated by mail, in the social networks and in all the service stations the measures to be taken by the users of the service:Obligatory use of gloves and recommended maskMaintain a safety distance of two meters if another user arrives at the station.In the process of obtaining the bicycle, touch the fewest buttons possible.During the journey avoid having contact with other parts of the body such as the face.Upon arrival, wash your hands as soon as possible with soap and water and clean the card.The Network of Cities for the Bicycle has established a series of criteria by which the use of the bicycle must be promoted during and after the pandemic:It is an individual mode of transport that facilitates social distancingIt is a mode that does not pollute, therefore it does not contribute to aggravating the state of people sick with coronavirusIt is a mode that does not make noise, therefore it makes it easier to appreciate the improvement in noise pollution on confined days without traffic, which causes greater emotional well-beingIt is a way that does not generate greenhouse gases, therefore it does not contribute to aggravating the climate emergency situationIt is a way that does not cause serious traffic accidents, therefore it avoids the use of sanitary services during these daysIt is a flexible and space-free mode that can be moved on most roads and pedestrian spaces in cities,It is a mode of active mobility that generates physical and emotional health for the person who uses it, very important in these times of confinement and sedentary lifestyle.It is the fastest mode of transport for distances of up to 8 km, the most common in metropolitan environments,It is a very economical mode of transport both by the user and by the public administrationIf people who can use it make it possible to use less public transport,For freight transport and e-commerce, cyclology is proving to be the most efficient and effective these days, especially for local commerce.
