Murcia intensifies social care, which shoots up 48% during the state of alarm (18/04/2020)

| The Consistory has treated 5,064 people by telephone during the period of confinement | The social attention of the Murcia City Council has increased by 48% since the declaration of the state of Alarma - on March 14 - with respect to the same period of the year 2019.

Specifically, the City Council has served 5,064 people by telephone, giving response to queries, processing of aid, questions and suggestions from Murcian families.In addition, the Social Services have carried out 3,449 interventions, which is 33.55% more than those carried out in the same period last year.

Attention to families has also intensified, with an increase of 33.55% and a total of 3,270 families.All telephone attention is centralized at number 010, which families should call to make their inquiries and from where they are contacted by a reference professional.

An appointment can be requested every working day of the week, with a commitment to immediate attention, the next day or with a maximum of 3 days of waiting.Direct Social Emergency AidAt the last Governing Board, the Consistory gave the green light to the extraordinary, simplified and urgent procedure for processing these aid to vulnerable families, in the face of the emergency situation generated by COVID-19.

Specifically, the contributions range between 430 euros for single-parent families and 1,071 euros for families with several members.The City Council has established a new system for granting these grants, streamlining their processing as much as possible, so that they can be requested by telephone (010), telematic(https://citaprevia.serviciossociales.murcia.es/).

To make the procedure as easy as possible for families, they will be able to send the required documentation through WhatsApp (which will be provided by the Social Services themselves).Expansion of the home help food serviceAmong the measures adopted by the City Council from the state of Alarma, the expansion of the home delivery service stands out, which "guarantees the arrival of food for the elderly and dependent people, maintaining our commitment to the most vulnerable groups," stressed the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta.Specifically, since March 14, 900 menus have been served to 120 families.

At the same time, the full activity of the Home Help Service is maintained normally, serving more than 2,000 Murcians through personal care and toilets, as well as the preparation and administration of meals, among other services.3,000 cards dining room purseThe City Council also launched the dining room wallet card, due to the suspension of classes in educational centers.

Currently, about 3,000 schoolchildren receive this aid, of which 2,100 are awarded scholarships by the Community and 891 by the City Council.
