Recycling in the yellow container grows 28% during the confinement period (14/04/2020)

Murcians are recycling more during the period of confinement.

This is indicated by the data regarding the plastic, metal and brick containers deposited in the yellow container.

In the first half of the month of March, 321.2 tons of these containers were collected in this container, while from March 16 there were 410 tons, representing an increase of 28% in the recycling of this waste.

The blue container also increases your deposit.

In the first fortnight of March, 258.9 tons were collected and in the second half of the same month, 293.5, increased by 13%.

The collection of the glass container also increases, reaching 6% more than last February.

Likewise, a decrease in the contribution to the remaining fraction container of 8% is observed.

In the first fortnight they were 8,265.5 tons and in the second 7,565 tons.

This fall would respond to the drop in commercial activity and services throughout the city due to the total closure of hospitality establishments, one of the major sectors that generate urban solid waste.

This increase would respond to a greater consumption within the homes, as a consequence of the confinement of the population, confirming a greater environmental commitment during these days.

The collection of paper and cardboard from commerce has also decreased by 33%.

Although most businesses in the service, retail and hospitality sector remain closed, we established them as open, such as pharmacies, supermarkets, tobacconists and kiosks, have increased the production of this type of waste.

The downward trend is also observed in the bulky and household warehouses with respect to the first fortnight of March, they decreased by 13%, going from 249, until March 15, to 217 tons from the 16th to the 31st of the same month. .

The Murcia City Council and Ferrovial Servicios continue to guarantee the collection of this waste, although the common sense of the public is appealed to, asking them to do it correctly, after notifying the concessionary company and strictly following the instructions marked for the proper deposit of these bulky.

Likewise, the population is warned that this type of waste abandoned without prior notice in our environment poses a public health risk in the state of alarm in which we find ourselves, both for the neighborhood and for the workers who carry out the collection of these equipment.

It is also recalled that special household waste such as used batteries, cooking oil, old light bulbs or broken electrical or electronic devices should be kept in the homes until the reopening of the mobile ecopoints.

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, explained that "we are very proud of the Murcians who are demonstrating a greater commitment to the correct disposal of waste. The increase in selective collection in recent years has always been upward, but at the moment they have demonstrated a greater capacity to do better. This difficult situation has made an act as habitual as throwing the garbage has become a more important action and that we must do correctly. Organizing waste at home is key to make the deposit more efficiently and safely. "
