The City Council mobilizes 2 million euros from the contingency fund to support families, SMEs and the self-employed (08/04/2020)

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, reported today after the telematic Governing Board meeting, that "from the Murcia City Council we are going to mobilize two million euros, attached to the contingency fund, to attend immediately to two priority sectors : the most vulnerable families and SMEs and the self-employed â€.

"Thanks to the collaboration of all the members of this government team and of the municipal Corporation as a whole, we are going to speed up the provision of these municipal funds, destined to face exceptional situations, to these two priority groups, which are those who are being punished the most for this harsh crisis, â€said the mayor after the meeting.

The money will be distributed approximately, equally, between the two groups: one million euros for immediate social care - which is already being provided to children, the elderly, dependents and those at risk of social exclusion - and another for the reactivation of the municipality of Murcia.

“Our priority is to guarantee the social coverage of the most vulnerable families and people.

At the same time, we cannot forget those who create jobs, the self-employed and small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, people who in many cases are not only supporting their own families but also those of others, "José Ballesta stressed.

The immediate mobilization of these funds, contemplated in the 2019 Municipal Budget, will take place after their approval by the Plenary.

It is a month of the first positive in Murcia

The mayor recalled that "today, April 8, it is exactly one month since the first positive for coronavirus was detected in the Region of Murcia."

Throughout the 30 points of the Board, the members of the Government team have carried out an analysis of the more than 200 decisions that have been made and executed in recent weeks.

In addition, the mayor also thanked the collaboration of "each of the councilors and spokespersons for all political parties, who make their contributions and share their ideas for improvement with us through the Public Health Committee."

More than 200 decisions

Before the Central Government declared the state of Alarm on March 14, the City Council launched a battery of measures and actions.

After the detection of the first case of Coronavirus in the municipality of Murcia, on March 9 the first Public Health Committee of the City Council was created as an advisory committee.

Since then, the City Council has made more than 200 decisions and developed a series of actions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, such as essential public health measures, social aid and assistance, the postponement of various mass events, the launch of operation of intensive cleaning and disinfection devices, coordination with social entities for the collection and distribution of food, teleworking in the Administration, etc.
