A municipal grant allows the planting of a thousand trees in Corvera (08/04/2020)

The Governing Board has given the go-ahead to awarding a grant to the Morus Alba Environmental Association amounting to 3,000 euros and allowing Corvera to have more than 1,000 new trees.

This reforestation action, framed within the Forest 2030 Strategy, began last year in area 27 next to the Corvera power station, where more than a thousand specimens of endemic Mediterranean vegetation have been planted.

The peculiarity of this initiative is that all plants are genetically resistant to the harsh climatic conditions of the Region of Murcia, since they belong to the only nursery (Muzale in Abanilla) in the Region that works with endemic seeds collected from the area.

In this way, a new environmental and recreation area is created for the residents of the district.

Thanks to the Foresta 2030 Strategy, the Murcia City Council intends to duplicate the trees in public areas throughout the municipality and reach 200,000 specimens by 2030, of which 80% will be planted in districts.

This action is part of the land stewardship program developed by the Department of Sustainable Development and Huerta with different associations and environmental groups, a tool to promote the sustainable development of municipal forest parks and other areas of high environmental interest in the municipality.

Thus, the environmental and landscape qualities of municipal forest parks are valued, biodiversity is increased and the conservation status of the ecosystems present in the municipality is improved, and the development of agrotourism and ecotourism is encouraged.
