The Food Bank receives more than 120 tons of food for the most vulnerable groups during the confinement (07/04/2020)

The Food Bank of Segura has received more than 123,000 kilos of basic necessities (123 tons) during the period of confinement, such as fruits and vegetables, dairy products, fresh products and preserves, among other foods, donated by some twenty companies, which are being mainly destined for Cáritas and Jesús Abandonado, entities that are in charge of allocating it to all families, which are derived by the Social Services of the Murcia City Council, guaranteeing the supply of the most vulnerable groups.

The City Council is coordinating the arrival and distribution of food, and managing solidarity donations through telephone 010, to which companies interested in making contributions of food, hygiene or cleaning products should contact, and making available to the Food Bank the Mobile Emergency Service for Social and Family Rights (SEMAS), reinforcing the delivery of food to those who need it most.

SEMAS is carrying out this work in collaboration with other entities, such as the Red Cross.

"In these complicated days we are living, it is important to point out the work carried out by all the companies and entities from Murcia that participate in this solidarity initiative, demonstrating that they are up to the situation with the donation of different types of basic necessities, that will reach the most vulnerable groups, "said the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres.

Specifically, the Food Bank has received more than 30,000 kilos (30 tons) of food and basic necessities from the Association of Supermarkets of the Region of Murcia (ASUMUR), which includes 8,000 servings of prepared food, which will be distributed by SEMAS to the most disadvantaged people.

This delivery was attended by the director of the Association of Supermarkets of the Region of Murcia (ASUMUR), Javier Ruano, as well as the president of the Food Bank of Segura, Bonifacio Fernández.

The Caliche Group contributes in the logistics and transportation of food through its Solidarity Trucks.

Tortillas, fresh cheese, chicken curry and pasta

The Association of Supermarkets of the Region of Murcia (ASUMUR), which groups together Super Dumbo, Mercadona, Consum, Musgrave, Spar-Upper, Mas y Mas, and GranbiBio, has delivered tortillas with onions, potato tortillas with chorizo, fresh cheese beef, light cow cheese, risotto, turkey and cheese sandwiches and chicken curry with rice.

ASUMUR has also donated pork cheeks, chicken with almonds, macaroni bolognese, burrata, sugar-free natural lactose-free yogurts and bifidus 0% nut yogurts, among other foods.

More than 8,000 workers of the entity have coordinated this delivery of products, in which the companies AMC, Linasa, Soltir and Grupo Caliche have collaborated.

Fruits, vegetables, milk, cheeses, juices and yogurts

Other suppliers who have participated in this solidarity initiative by donating products during the period of confinement, exceeding 80,000 kilos of food, are the following:

-10,000 kilos of fruits and vegetables, by Proexport.

-1,800 kilos of ElPozo products.

-500 kilos of milk, in charge of the Caliche Group.

-3,000 kilos, between children's cereals (1,500 kg) and energy bars (1,500 kg), by Hero.

-2,000 kilos, between melons (1,500 kg) and watermelons (500 kgs), by the Melones El Abuelo.

-14,000 kilos of Juver juice, of which 4,500 kilos are orange.

-4,000 kilos of fried tomato and Hida gazpacho.

-1,500 kilos of custard apples by Agriosa El Carril.

-120 kilos of Russian salad (240 servings) by New Mediterranean Cuisine.

-5,600 kilos, including tomatoes, pears, apples and lettuces, by Catman North.

-10,422 kilos of food divided into two orders by La Caixa.

On the one hand, 7,500 kilos, including milk (6,500 kilos), Cola Cao (500 kilos) and Nescafé (500 kilos).

On the other, 2,922 kilos, including rice, fried tomato, Cola Cao and canned fish, by La Caixa.

-1,500 kilos, between cheeses and yogurts, from Queserías de Levante.

-2,000 kilos of potatoes Córdoba.

-23,268 kilos of Marín Montejano juice.

-500 kilos of Vidal sweets.

-Fetén, the Salt of Murcia.

The recipients

The Food Bank is allocating the products to the most needy groups, through organizations such as Cáritas and Jesús Abandonado, soup kitchens, nursing homes, religious communities and social integration entities.

In total, the Segura Food Bank works with 169 beneficiary entities.

How to make a donation

Companies that want to make a donation of food, hygiene or cleaning products should call the Citizen Service number, 010, from where they will assist them.

More than 12,000 kilos of salad for people in social exclusion

Another action that adds to these donations is the distribution of food made by the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care (SEMAS) to 125 people in social exclusion last week.

On this occasion, products such as rice, chickpeas, fried tomato, milk, among others, were donated, as well as 12,900 kilos of Russian salad by New Mediterranean Cuisine.

In addition, families with babies received diapers and baby food.

The distribution was made in different districts, such as Era Alta, Cabezo de Torres, Beniaján, Nonduermas, Valladolises, Aljucer, El Palmar, Los Ramos, Santiago and Zaraiche, Puente Tocinos, El Esparragal, Lobosillo and Monteagudo, and neighborhoods such as La Fama and San Antón.

SEMAS distributed these products in collaboration with different entities, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor, Jesús Abandonado, Cáritas, the Red Cross, the Food Bank and Civil Protection.
