Flags at half-staff for the victims (31/03/2020)

The HazteOir.org association has been in charge of launching the campaign 'Flags at half-mast for the victims'.

Ignacio Arsuaga: “The consistories are the institutions closest to the citizens, and the first that should keep in memory those neighbors who could not overcome the disease.

It is time to honor the victims of this damn virus that is doing us so much damage ”

“The coronavirus pandemic that we are experiencing is causing one of the most dramatic situations in our democracy.

In Spain, thousands of citizens are dying from COVID-19 and I don't see any official gesture, not a single symbolic tribute to those who die every day and the pain of their families.

It is so simple, it is hard to believe that it has not been launched yet. ”

With these words, thousands of citizens are addressing the president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and provinces, Abel Caballero, and, through HazteOir.org, the mayor of Murcia, "wave the national flag at half-staff as a sign of respect and mourning for all those who have died of coronavirus. "

The initiative is part of the HazteOir.org campaign 'Flags at half-staff for victims'

"The consistories are the institutions closest to the citizens, and the first that should keep in memory those neighbors who could not overcome the disease.

Their relatives, who could not even fire them as they would have liked, will appreciate that Spain as a whole remembers them.

It is time to honor the victims of this damn virus that is doing us so much damage, ”says HazteOir.org president Ignacio Arsuaga.

The impact of this campaign is already being felt and the flag of Spain is already flying at half-staff in communities like Madrid.

However, the president of HazteOir.org is clear: "There should not be a single consistory in our country without carrying out this small action that means so much to the victims of the coronavirus and their families."

In the letter sent by HazteOir.org to the mayors, the president of the civic entity expressly asks them to honor the memory of the deceased.

"It is our moral obligation to require the municipalities of all Spain to place the flags at half mast.

It doesn't matter which political party is in charge of it.

We are talking about human beings ”, concludes Arsuaga.
