Murcia guarantees the water supply to the most vulnerable families (30/03/2020)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, chaired this morning the Murcia Water Council, which was held electronically, through a joint videoconference, which reported on the rates that Aguas de Murcia offers to families who are they are in a situation of economic vulnerability, guaranteeing the water supply during the state of confinement.

The most outstanding social rate is the € 5 / month plan, intended for people who do not exceed a consumption of 110 liters of water per day, an amount higher than that established by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a vital minimum, covering in this way the basic needs of hygiene and food –80 liters / person and day–.

In addition, this fee supposes the exemption from paying the garbage fee for its beneficiaries.

Given the state of confinement, the City Council, through Aguas de Murcia, works to guarantee the supply of water to all Murcian families who are in a situation of economic vulnerability, promoting aid from the water and sewerage service.

More than 15,700 people attached to the rate

Currently, 15,766 people (4,700 families) benefit from this rate.

In addition, since 2012, the year in which the Murcia Social Water Fund was created, the local administration has allocated nearly 3.75 million euros to guarantee the supply of water to vulnerable families.

Telematic customer service channels

The City Council, through the Social Services of the City Council and Aguas de Murcia, continues to work 100% to grant social fees to any family that requests it and that meets the access requirements.

For this, although Aguas de Murcia's customer service offices are closed to the public due to the state of Alarma, the company has made its non-contact channels available to families for consultation and management.

Aguas de Murcia's free telephone number is 900 700 808, available from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the virtual office of this entity can be found at www.emuasa.es.

Aguas de Murcia has maintained as essential the activity of contracting supply to guarantee users water supply when requested.

People and entities that can qualify for this rate

Families who prove financial need or who have been beneficiaries of economic benefits processed and reported favorably by the Social Services of the City Council in the last two years can receive this rate.

Families residing in homes ceded by associations, NGOs, non-profit organizations and the Public Administration may also qualify for the € 5 fee.

Rates for families at risk of exclusion

Aguas de Murcia also has the social rate for families at risk of exclusion.

In temporary situations, for example, when the members of a family unit are unemployed, without reaching the need for help from Social Services.

This rate allows a saving in the water bill of 25% in the water service fee.

Water supply for the Patiño and Algezares settlements

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Sports and Health, and in collaboration with Aguas de Murcia, has taken this morning the decision to enable a point to supply drinking water to the settlements of Patiño and Algezares, which will allow supplying the families of these settlements during the period of confinement.

It is a temporary action, with which the City Council ends the disputes generated by the water supply between the settlements and residents of these districts during the state of Alarma.

When the period of confinement ends, the settlements will be able to provide themselves with this resource in Jesús Abandonado, as it happened before the state of Alarm was declared.
