The Psychosocial Counseling Service for young people continues to be provided via telephone and telematics (30/03/2020)

The Psychosocial Advisory Service for young people, dependent on the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, continues to be provided via telephone and telematics.

Thus, young people can contact the team of psychologists on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 a.m. to 2 p.m. by phone 968 231 589 and by email asexjoven@ayto-murcia.es.

Psychosocial Counseling for young people is a free, anonymous and confidential public service aimed primarily at young people between the ages of 16 and 30, with the mission of disseminating and guiding young people in psychosocial, psycho-affective and sexual matters.

This service answered 40 telephone inquiries and 110 emails last year.

This service also organizes and carries out informative and educational activities in educational centers, youth and cultural centers, and associations on current interests, issues and problems that interest and involve young people.

1,463 young people participated in these workshops last year.

They also carry out awareness campaigns, and prevention of emerging lifestyles, habits and customs that generate new forms of communication and interrelation among young people, which become risk factors, and can lead to dysfunctional behaviors (bullying, cyberbullying, use excessive ICT, online gambling and face-to-face gambling, consumption of pornography, sexting, violence between equals, etc.).

The majority of cases that have asked for guidance and advice in 2019, refer to different concrete and vital problems of today's youth, sometimes prevailing in the same order of importance, the family environment as the staff.

Thus, the most common queries in the past year were as follows:

- Conflicts and disagreements with the family, due to the lack of motivation to continue studying, and commitment to studies;

the lack of tools to motivate oneself and to face failure (the idea of dropping out of studies appears as a solution to problems).

- The difficulty of defining, what studies to carry out, given the training offer (University and Vocational Training) and the job panorama.

As an emotional correlate to these experiences, "anxiety pictures" appear, together with the pressure of the environment that induces to resolve quickly, and immediately, leave states of uncertainty as soon as possible, and make decisions, although not very thoughtful.

- Problems in the couple relationship, the difficulty in maintaining interpersonal relationships, on a model of emotional independence, and that generates different disagreements (which they point out as difficulties that they do not know how to deal with ..)

- Loneliness, or difficulty in having and making friends, appears as an increasingly widespread problem;

especially and more frequent in young people with functional diversity.

- Use and abuse of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in young people, and games of chance, online and in betting houses, observing a progression in the last year.
