Adif joins the 'Earth Hour' campaign by turning off the exterior lighting of the Murcia station (27/03/2020)

Tomorrow Saturday, March 28, Adif will join the WWF campaign 'Earth Hour 2020' by turning off, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the lighting of the facades and of the exterior ornamental elements of 27 of its main stations, including Murcia.

In this way, Adif joins millions of people and organizations around the world in an initiative that has become the largest global movement in defense of the environment.

With the slogan 'Turn off the light.

Everything will be fine ', in reference to the crisis generated by COVID-19, the organization WWF intends that, on this occasion, the campaign will also serve to send a message of hope and "remind us that together we can overcome and change any situation".

Adif and the fight against climate change

Adif, as a company fully committed to sustainability and, specifically, to environmental sustainability, guides its activity with the aim of contributing to environmentally friendly and responsible transport in the use of resources.

This commitment is embodied in the approval and implementation of its Plan to Combat Climate Change 2018-2030 (set for Adif and Adif High Speed), whose objectives are to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from the system railway, as well as decrease its own carbon footprint.

Furthermore, in the area of adaptation, the Plan seeks to increase the resilience of railway infrastructure to the adverse effects of climate change.

Therefore, with this Plan, Adif aligns with the main challenges that have been set in the matter at the international level, contributing both to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda (specifically objective No. 13 "Climate Action") as well as the Paris Agreement.

Likewise, Adif responds with its Plan to the growing concern to act in the fight against climate change that has been evidenced, both by the European Union, with the publication of its "Green Pact", and at the national level, with the recent climate emergency declaration.
