UCAM donates more than 3,300 surgical gowns and leggings, and produces 3D facial protections (23/03/2020)

The clothing, stored in its Murcia and Cartagena campuses for the practices of its Health Sciences students, was removed this afternoon by the Murcian Health Service, to which it will also deliver the headbands for face protection masks that teachers and students of the Department of Telecommunication Systems Engineering have begun to elaborate on 3D printers.

He has also donated the disposable coveralls for chemical and biological protection available to him.

Since the appearance of the COVID19 outbreak in Spain, UCAM has been promoting various solidarity initiatives, both donations and volunteer actions.

In this sense, the Catholic University, through the Department of Universities, offered to the Murcian Health Service to make its facilities available and deliver the health material available in the Health Sciences and Nursing faculties.

As a result, 1,630 surgical gowns, 1,700 tights and three disposable and sterile BioClean-D coveralls, special to chemical and biological risks, have already been delivered to the Murcia and Cartagena campus, which are already available to healthcare professionals.

It is the first batch of material delivered by the Catholic University to help combat the coronavirus pandemic, although more donations are expected in the coming weeks.

On the other hand, through the Telegram messaging service, the entire 'Maker' community is coordinating with the Murcian Health Service to manufacture medical equipment with 3D printers.

The UCAM Department of Telecommunications Systems Engineering is collaborating with the manufacture of headbands for protective visors that are used by doctors and nurses to prevent contagion.

The initiative has been launched with the department's 3D printers and those made available to this project by students and teachers.

In addition, through the Office of the Vice President for Research, an appeal will be made to the entire university community and UCAM alumni so that all those who have 3D printers make them available to this initiative.
