The Murcia City Council has made its municipal pavilions and facilities available to the health authorities to establish new areas of care and isolation in the event that the advance of the pandemic makes it necessary to enable extraordinary spaces.
The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, in coordination with the Health Minister, Manuel Villegas, has reported on this new measure to combat the pandemic, "putting all the human and material resources of the Murcia City Council at the service of everyone's health the Murcians ”.
"We are currently in a position to establish a general isolation zone in the El Cagigal ward, very close to the Morales Meseguer hospital," said the mayor, who did not rule out "also enabling intensive surveillance areas in the Palacio de los Deportes y del Prince of Asturias Pavilion ”.
Likewise, municipal parking areas, such as those that exist in the vicinity of the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, will be made available to the health authorities if necessary.
Specifically, the Cagigal has already been sanitized, thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, it has ensured the supply of light, water and basic services, and it has 50 beds for the immediate accommodation of any group established by the health authorities, always following the criteria set by the professionals of the Ministry of Health.
The City Council studied enabling this space as emergency accommodation for the homeless, although it was finally decided to transfer it to shelters, in collaboration with the Family Department and Jesús Abandonado.
