Murcia reinforces the Volunteer Plan and launches a telephone service to combat loneliness (21/03/2020)

The City Council has reinforced the Volunteer Plan, which includes two types of modalities: the Telephone Volunteer network to combat loneliness of the elderly, offering them conversation and moral support by phone during the period of confinement, and the provision of Home Help, attending to their demands and bringing to their homes the products they need, such as medicines.

"We maintain our commitment to one of the most vulnerable groups, reinforcing the Volunteer Plan, in which the elderly can find social and moral support to combat loneliness during these days of confinement, someone to talk to and vent, as well as request those services they need â€, highlighted José Ballesta.

Specifically, the Telephone Volunteer Service, launched by the City Council in collaboration with the National Association of Women Entrepreneurs, Professionals, Managers and Executives (ANAEDE) offers psychological support and conversation to the elderly who request it, as well as information from Social Services.

The Volunteer Plan is being managed by the departments of the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, directed by Paqui Pérez, and by Social and Family Rights, directed by Pilar Torres.

Prior instruction

A team made up of psychologists, social educators and social workers is in charge of caring for the elderly who request this service and guiding the volunteers themselves, channeling all the information, instructing the volunteers and evaluating each case to provide a complete and efficient service. , guaranteeing that the security and control protocols are complied with.

Phones to contact

Due to the high demand registered since the declaration of the State of Alarm, the City Council has made available to Murcia two new telephones that join the existing ones to reinforce this service, to which those interested in participating as volunteers and those who want to receive the services of the Volunteer Plan.

The phones are:

-City of Murcia Social Services Center: 968 26 27 18.

- Murcia Norte Social Services Center: 968 87 97 10.

-South Murcia Social Services Center: 968 87 37 87.

-Central offices: 968 35 86 00 and external numbers: 56936 and 56861.

Users can contact this Service from Monday to Friday, calling from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Incidents that arise outside these hours will be channeled through the Mobile Emergency and Social Care Service of the Murcia City Council (SEMAS).

Those interested can also request information by contacting serviciossociales@ayto-murcia.les.

In addition to the Volunteer Plan, Social Services manages all your queries through the telephone numbers listed, attending to the most vulnerable people to respond to their needs, offering information on financial aid, the Home Meal Service, telecare, etc.
