UMU publishes contingency plans for research activity and international mobility (17/03/2020)

The Vicerrectorado of Investigation and Internationalization of the University of Murcia has published the contingency plans with indications and instructions to follow during the state of alarm decreed to face the sanitary crisis caused by COVID-19.

Regarding international mobility, this plan explains that, on the possibility of returning to the country of origin, each student is free to make the decision they deem appropriate, as long as the instructions indicated by the competent authorities are followed. in the place where they are currently studying or practicing.

In any case, those returning from areas affected by COVID19 are reminded that they have an obligation to keep a 14-day quarantine, following the instructions of the health authorities.

Both the UMU students who are abroad and those international students who are in Murcia, it is recalled that the decision to return to the place of origin during the suspension of academic activity is independent of how the course of the subjects for which they are enrolled.

For these academic purposes, the indications and contingency plans of the centers in which they are enrolled in the current term must follow.

As for financial aid related to the different mobilities, SEPIE (national ERASMUS agency) is carrying out the pertinent consultations with the European Commission in order to be able to justify the expenses that have been derived from the programmed mobilities.

The University of Murcia is waiting for more detailed information, but it is recommended to keep all the supporting documents for the expenses incurred, whether or not the mobility has been carried out.

In the rest of the programs, the guidelines of the financing entities will be applied.

As for the mobility activities of teachers and administration staff, the general recommendation is to postpone them as much as possible.

Currently, a European Commission decision is awaiting the extension of the deadlines.

As for financial aid, the recommendation is the same, save supporting documents for all expenses incurred.

Research contingency plan

With regard to scientific and research activity, the Vice-Rector's Office remembers the closure of the facilities in general, establishing the indications so that they can continue to carry out those essential face-to-face activities to continue developing research projects already underway.

In this sense, the contingency plan establishes that it will be possible to access the laboratories located in the different centers to carry out urgent and essential punctual tasks, maintaining access to the facilities in an orderly and coordinated manner with the rest of the people present so as not to coincide in the spaces.

As a result of this contingency plan, a necessary shift has been established to review the facilities and guarantee the proper condition of the samples and freezers.

Minimum staff shifts have also been established to attend to the animals of the Animal Experimentation Service and the plants and samples of the Agroforestry Experimentation Section, among other measures.
