The City Council expands the home help food service (17/03/2020)

The Mayor of Murcia visited the facilities of New Mediterranean Kitchen, the company that distributes the menus applying all the control and security mechanisms.

José Ballesta: "We maintain our commitment to the most vulnerable people, the elderly, guaranteeing the arrival of food in their homes safely and effectively."

The City Council will expand the home help food service, in the event that it is necessary during the next few weeks, to pay attention to all those elderly people who may need this assistance.

Currently, the full activity of the Home Help Service is maintained normally, which serves more than 2,000 Murcians through personal care and toilets, as well as the preparation and administration of meals, among other services.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, visited this morning the facilities of New Mediterranean Kitchen, the company that distributes the menus of the Food Service at Home, along with the councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres.

"We maintain our commitment to the most vulnerable people, the elderly, users who, due to their situation, require this care, such as the Home Meal Service, which is developing applying all the safety regulations, guaranteeing the arrival of food in the homes safely and effectively, "said José Ballesta.

The menu of this Service, whose work is developing with total normality, consists of salad, first course, second course and dessert.

More than 6,300 menus in February

The Food Service Service delivered more than 6,300 menus in February, which were distributed to 325 users –284 most common direct beneficiaries–.

Masks, gloves, disinfectant gels and glasses

New Mediterranean Cuisine has activated all the health control and safety mechanisms to guarantee the safety of its workers and its users.

In this sense, the workers access the homes of the users applying all the safety measures, using masks, gloves, disinfecting gels and glasses, as well as maintaining the safety distance and avoiding unnecessary contacts with people and belongings.

Hygiene and cleaning measures have also been intensified at the headquarters of New Mediterranean Cuisine.

Likewise, protective gowns will be provided if necessary.

The City Council has adopted this series of prevention and protection measures, guaranteeing that the provision to all users is carried out completely and safely.

In this way, attention is maintained to all users who benefit from this service, many of whom are also dependent elderly people;

essential care for many families.

Detection of vulnerable cases

The Social Services Centers are acting to detect cases that are on the waiting list and may be in a situation of risk and vulnerability, who will also be provided with Home Help Services.
