The City Council launches a special disinfection device for the municipal parks and gardens (17/03/2020)

The City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Administration Modernization, headed by José Guillén, is carrying out a special device for cleaning and disinfecting parks and gardens and urban furniture in Murcia and districts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

In accordance with Royal Decree 463/2020 of March 14, 2020 from the Ministry of the Presidency that declares the State of Alarm, the Public Health Committee of the municipality of Murcia agreed last Sunday to proceed with the inspection, cleaning and disinfection of games for children, urban furniture and canine recreation areas, as well as the closure of the municipal zoo Terra Natura.

"The maintenance in perfect state of disinfection and with total guarantees of security of the green areas of our municipality is a priority for this consistory", explains José Guillén.

In this way, the performances focus on the play elements of the children's areas, the geronto-gymnastics pieces, the canine recreation areas and the urban furniture.

More than 200 workers, from the concessionaire company STV-Actúa, are in charge of these tasks, equipped with the regulatory safety clothing to prevent infection and other elements, such as masks and gloves.

Specifically, the Parks and Gardens Service is operating in: 2,834 children's games, located in the more than 500 existing leisure areas for children in the municipality;

723 gymnastic apparatus, distributed in the 69 bio-healthy areas for the elderly.

As for the frequency, cleaning is daily and constant and the product used for these actions is sodium hypochlorite diluted in water.

José Guillén adds that "to the usual cleaning tasks, we have intensified the activity in these spaces, so that they are ready and can be enjoyed in complete safety, guarantee of disinfection and in perfect condition as soon as possible".

Priority in canine recreation areas

The Parks and Gardens Service has intensified the cleaning work in the 51 canine recreation areas of the municipality, both in the play equipment for pets and the furniture in these spaces.

The Decree allows pets to be walked, so the frequency of disinfection in these areas has been expanded, three times a day throughout the week.

The product used for this is zotal and other disinfectants for the toilets to avoid fleas.

"These spaces become sensitive places where it is a priority to maintain, care and hygiene and safety conditions", explains the councilman.
