The Department of Elders led by Paqui Pérez has called on older people to follow the recommendations and take precautions in the face of the coronavirus crisis.
"Prevention and protocol measures that are common to all age groups, but that, in the case of the elderly, we must not forget since it is the most fragile and vulnerable group," said the mayor.
In this way, the owner of the branch has asked the elderly to try to carry out only the essential activities, to stay at home, not to use public transport and take extreme hygiene measures in their daily lives.
It also reminds them to follow the recommendations of the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes, who advises older and more vulnerable people to listen to the mass on television-and that, in the case of going to churches, keep between Yes, the recommended distance of more than one meter and do not give peace with your hands or kisses.
The councilor for the elderly recalls that this is a temporary situation.
"From the City Council we send a message of calm and confidence in the measures that are being adopted by the health authorities and administrations," he stressed.
In addition, it has indicated that if the situation continues, measures will be put in place to help older people who are alone in the municipality.
"We are going to be very vigilant to try to make sure that no one in our municipality feels lonely for a long time."
Finally, the mayor Paqui Pérez thanked the members of the Boards of Directors and the 32,000 members for the responsibility with which they have adopted the temporary closure of the 76 Social Centers for the Elderly in the municipality of Murcia to avoid contagion by coronavirus.
