José Ballesta calls with a Bando to Murcia to act "with the utmost prudence and responsibility" (12/03/2020)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, has communicated in a Bando signed late in the morning the latest measures adopted by the City Council, which is working in coordination with international organizations, led by the World Health Organization, as well as with the State and Community Health and Health authorities, to contain the spread of the coronavirus and that this disease affects the minimum population possible.

José Ballesta has called for the responsibility of all Murcians: “The measures adopted by this City Council and by the rest of the public administrations will not be sufficient if each one of us makes the personal decision to act with the utmost prudence and with a high sense of responsibility â€.

"Murcia and Murcia have suffered in recent times various events that have seriously altered our daily activity (torrential rains, overflow of the river ...).

In all these cases we have shown that we are capable of overcoming and acting together to resolve these serious situations.

I am sure that we will do it again â€, stressed the mayor of Murcia.

"It is time to demonstrate each of us, with our personal actions, our strength as a responsible and advanced society," added the Murcia councilman.

The measures adopted by the City Council

From the Murcia City Council, in common agreement between all political groups, the decision has been taken to postpone or suspend activities involving large concentrations of people, especially in those places where the population at risk is concentrated, measures that will be applied temporary and will be subject to the evolution of the situation.

Specifically, the measures adopted by the City Council to stop the spread of the coronavirus are the following:

-The activities of the elderly and women's centers in the municipality are closed and suspended.

-The activities that take place in the cultural centers of the municipality are postponed from Friday, March 13 to April 20.

From that date, the programming will resume at the time it stopped, prolonging the season of activities until the end of all the scheduled ones.

These centers will remain open without activities since in many of them the headquarters of the municipal board or associations are located.

-Programming in municipal theaters and auditoriums is suspended until April 20.

From that date, the planned schedule is maintained.

The performances that are not going to take place will be rescheduled in the following months, depending on the availability of the artistic companies.

-The municipal exhibition halls and museums will remain open, although group and school visits will be canceled until April 20.

The Planetarium of the Museum of Science and Water will be closed during this time.

-The young spaces of the municipality will remain open, although they suspend their activities until April 20.

Likewise, the activities of the Networks program and the Language Clubs are suspended until that date.

-The supply squares are kept open, although additional cleaning and hygiene measures will be carried out, as well as greater control of food handling.

The weekly markets of La Fama and Santa María de Gracia are suspended, and measures will be taken on the other markets that are held throughout the municipality.

-The activities planned on public roads are postponed, such as the Sports Festival, the Welcome to Spring, the River Week Festival of the Huerta or the Jazz Festival.

-The training of sports schools in municipal facilities is suspended, as well as the 'My City Teaches' program aimed at students from educational centers in the municipality.

-The civil weddings held at the Town Hall are maintained, although the capacity in the Plenary Hall may not exceed 25 people.

-And measures will be adopted in nursery schools, libraries and study rooms, depending on the agreements made at the other educational levels.

Disinfection of public transport and other additional measures

Along with these measures, other additional measures have been adopted that result in cleaning and hygiene, adding specific means of disinfection for cleaning vehicles destined for public transport, installing disinfecting gels in municipal offices, allowing municipal employees to check in from the computer and not only from the fingerprint readers, as well as promoting that the meetings planned outside Murcia are held by videoconference.

For this reason, all residents of Murcia are requested to respect all containment and isolation measures recommended by the health authorities, to be sensible and to limit contacts, especially with health personnel and those who are caring for the elderly or with previous illnesses.

For this, the importance of not going unnecessarily to hospitals or health centers is recalled and those who believe they have symptoms remain in their homes and call 112 or 900-12-12-12, calling the instructions given by healthcare professionals

Likewise, the entire population is required to take as reference the information from official sources, the web pages and official social network accounts of the regional, state and international health authorities.
