Los Ramos neighbors already enjoy the new Mediterranean garden of more than 1,000 m2 next to the Vía Verde (10/03/2020)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, inaugurated this oasis inspired by the Murcian Huerta, with palm trees, orange trees, vanilla, bells and lavenders, located in the village's Chocolate Sidewalk.

The Greenway has allowed to incorporate 200,000 m2 of spaces of high landscape value, connecting on foot and by bicycle the Huerta and the districts of the South Coast with the city of Murcia.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, and the Councilor for Pedanías y Barrios, Marco Antonio Fernández, inaugurated today the new Mediterranean garden of the Vereda del Chocolate, which they enjoy and the more than 4,500 residents of Los Ramos, as it passes through the Vía Verde.

This natural and leisure space of more than 1,000 m2 has been designed by the Murcian sculptor Pepe Hernández, together with the Park and Garden technicians, and the Murcian Huerta and its traditional ditches occupy a leading place.

"The neighbors of this district will have a new area for meeting, recreation and contact with nature, which can be used by pedestrians and cyclists of the Vía Verde," said José Ballesta.

Thus, he recalled that “the Greenway is the healthy route of 8.5 km that connects the southern districts on foot and by bicycle, which has allowed the incorporation of 200,000 m2 of spaces of high landscape value, connecting the Huerta and the districts of the Coastal South with the city of Murcia â€.

Arch in honor of the Virgen de las Huertas

The garden also has a large entrance arch in honor of the Virgen de las Huertas, at the initiative of the Municipal Board, as well as a fountain with a sculpture of an orchard by the Murcian artist Pepe Hernández.

In addition, water takes a leading role through the ditches and hydraulic infrastructures, since the action has allowed to value the old ditch that passed that environment.

In this sense, the mayor stressed that “the channeling elements built by the Arabs around the Segura Valley constitute the most portentous hydraulic engineering project that exists, more than a thousand years old and still continue to operate throughout the Huerta of Murcia".

An oasis in the heart of the Greenway

In the garden located next to the Greenway, the simulation of a palm-shaped oasis adorned with vegetation, trees and shrub species, such as palm trees 'Phoenix dactylifera', orange trees, vanilla, bells or lavenders, stands out.

Families have at their disposal a play area with slides and educational and recreational elements with animal motifs.

The area has a fence, shock absorbing floor and multiple benches for rest.
