The City Council recovers more than 400,000 square meters of green spaces in the municipality (09/03/2020)

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, today reported on the Urban Green Infrastructure Investment Plan of the City Council throughout the municipality of Murcia.

Specifically, a total of 47 works are being carried out in Parks and Gardens, which means an investment of almost five million euros (4,862,224 euros) and the remodeling of 400,010 square meters of green areas.

These works benefit more than 150,000 people, who live in the area of ​​influence of these parks

"These spaces will be transformed into meeting points for our citizens, places of leisure and rest for adults and children, full of life and participation," said Councilor José Guillén, adding that "improving the quality of life of the neighbors is a priority for the session â€.

A new park concept

The City Council is immersed in a process of transformation of the parks and gardens of the municipality generating a new concept of these environments that combine healthy life, sport and rest.

All this in order to improve the quality of life of Murcia.

The ten specific objectives that the City Council has set for achieving this goal are:

1. Improve the environment and air quality, reducing pollution, CO2 emissions and the greenhouse effect.

“All this through the expansion of green areas, with more vegetation and new trees, as these are excellent filters for urban pollutants and their small particles and generate innumerable health benefits, as well as providing natural shade and improving the temperature â€, Highlights the councilor.

2. Expand and improve the biosaludables areas of the municipality to promote a healthy visa and healthy habits and sports, such as running, crossfit, calestenia, workout, football, basketball and urban sports, such as wheat or skate.

3. Have more areas of shade to increase comfort and the number of effective hours of use of the parks, especially thinking of the elderly and the smallest of the house.

4. Increase security.

These spaces are equipped with the most demanding measures, supplied with rubber and with a perimeter fence to guarantee for the protection of the smallest.

5. Turn water back into a central element of our gardens.

6. We are committed to resource effectiveness and especially water efficiency.

7. Make an intelligent control of our green spaces for a more efficient management of resources.

8. Build more accessible areas so that they can be enjoyed by all people.

9. Increase the number of residential areas.

10. Create areas for family reunion, citizen participation and socio-cultural meetings.

Transparency and neighborhood participation

The Urban Green Infrastructure Investment Plan of the City Council involves the remodeling of its parks and gardens;

a sector in which Murcia is a reference, which will host next April of the National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens 2020 (PARJAP), becoming the national capital of gardening.

“These actions are the result of a participation process through the Neighborhood and Collective Boards, as it is the neighbors themselves who propose the needs of their districts and the improvements they need,†explains the Urban Development Manager, who adds that in Many occasions are one of the most demanded issues.

In this way, from there, the Park and Garden service technicians study the projects and design the proposals.

"This is a very rigorous and strict process, which is carried out with the greatest transparency and rigor, as the neighborhood boards themselves are knowledgeable about the entire development of the works, providing proposals and modifications," says José Guillén.

47 works in progress, 32 in districts

The City of Murcia has a total of 47 works underway, of which 32 in districts and 15 in neighborhoods.

Specifically, the actions include the works of the integral remodeling of the most important gardens of the districts of Sangonera La Verde, Cabezo de Torres, Aljucer, Guadalupe, Puente Tocinos, Torreagüera, Patiño and El Palmar.

Likewise, the town hall also works on the improvement of other emblematic gardens in the city of Murcia, such as Fama (Dog Park), Silk, Rocío, Salitre, Lieutenant Flomesta, Fofó Park and Avenida de la Fama .

Another of the projects is the remodeling of nine large fountains and lakes, such as the four ponds, La Seda, El Salitre, Los Patos, in San Ginés, and the Fofó Park, and five fountains, the Circular Square, the Tower House del Reloj (Puente Tocinos), José Cánovas Ortiz garden (Beniaján), Juana Jugán avenue (Tocinos bridge) and Liberty avenue (Guadalupe).

The remodeling of medium and roundabouts of the municipality is another of the actions that are being carried out.

To name a few, those located in the variant of Los Dolores, Kingdom of Murcia, May Day, Pintor Sobejano, Almela Costa and Miguel Induráin are under construction.

To these works it is necessary to add the actions that are being carried out in the parks and gardens of the districts, belonging to the Plan of Pedanías and Diputaciones and Peripheral and / or Depressed Neighborhoods that the City Council carries out, next to the Autonomous Community.

The locations in which it is acting are: Alquerías, Baños y Mendigo, La Ñora, El Palmeral Garden, Llano de Brujas, Zeneta, Rincón de Seca, San Pío X, Cabezo de Torres, San José de la Vega, Puente Tocinos , Algezares, El Palmar and Corvera.

We must add the work in other areas, such as the construction of a new 'Playground' of Patiño, the new garden of the Verada del Chocolate, which expands the infrastructure of the greenway, in Los Ramos, and the integral remodeling of the square Antonete Gálvez in Torreagüera, belonging to the Extraordinary Investment Plan in Pedanías.

State of the works

Of the 47 works that are underway, 8 have recently been completed and a total of 39 are in execution, whose deadlines range between 4 and 6 months.

It is planned that all the works are completed for this summer.

In this way, a total of 8 works have recently been completed: Silk Lake, Salitre Lake, San Ginés Lake, Clock Fountain, Beniaján Fountain, First of May Avenue, Almela Costa Avenue, Vereda del Chocolate in Los Ramos .

To these works must be added those that are close to begin, in the absence of technical reports, authorizations of Cultural Property or are in the last process of adjudication of works, such as those of the Pintor Pedro Flores and Palmeral de La Paz garden.

All these investments come from different sources of financing, from European funds, funds from CARM and own funds.
