"A la carte libraries" to enjoy gastronomy and culture with about twenty activities for the whole family (09/03/2020)

Councilors Mercedes Bernabé and Pedro García Rex have presented this initiative, framed within the program of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020, which will take place from March 23 to June 29.

This project includes talks, activities, conferences, workshops and tastings that will take place in the 18 municipal libraries.

The City Council has designed a diptych as a menu that collects all the information.

On April 23, International Book Day, the centenary of the death of Benito Pérez Galdós will be commemorated, with 'Coffee, tea and pastries' in the Río Segura Library.

The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé and the Councilor for Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism, Pedro García, presented this morning at the headquarters of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy the initiative 'Libraries a la carte', which includes About twenty events between talks, conferences, workshops and tastings for the whole family.

"Murcia will host until June 29 a series of activities that combine culture and gastronomy, which will be held in different municipal libraries," said the councilors, who added that "'Libraries to the Charter' is an initiative framed within the programming of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy ".

The leaflet of this project, which contains all the information and is designed as a menu, is available in the Central Office of Murcia Gastronomic Capital and in the 18 municipal libraries of the city and districts.

The proposals of this initiative are intended for children and adults.

'Cook your story'

The first activity will take place in the Library of La Alberca, on March 23, under the 'Lactating Menu', which includes talks organized by the Breastfeeding Support Association, at 5 pm.

Specifically, this day is aimed at mothers and fathers interested in solving doubts and obtaining information about breastfeeding.

Another activity that stands out in 'Libraries a la Carte' is 'Cook your story', a menu for children, which will be held in the San Basilio library on April 21, at 5:30 p.m.

Specifically, a cooking therapy workshop will be carried out by the Obrador de Delia.

Those interested in participating can register in the library in which each activity takes place previously.

Tribute to Pérez Galdós

Another menu will be 'Coffee and tea with pastries in the Year Galdós 2020', which will commemorate the centenary of the death of Benito Pérez Galdós, recalling the work 'Fortunata and Jacinta' and the author's legacy.

This activity will take place on April 23, International Book Day, at the Río Segura Library, at 5 pm.

Expert lecturers from the University of Murcia will participate as speakers.

Finally, there will be a tasting of coffee, tea, infusions and various sweets, served by the Cafeteria of the Artillery Barracks.

'Senses of yesteryear' with the storm

'Libraries a la Carte' also includes the celebration of the menu 'Senses of yesteryear' with the musical group La Tempestad, which will be held at the Río Segura Library on June 19, at 8 pm, with music and reading.

This activity combines music, gastronomy and culture.

It includes a baroque cello concert, a musical intervention, an explanation of its context and a tasting.

The 'A la carte libraries'

The libraries in which this initiative of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy will be developed are the municipal libraries of La Alberca, San Basilio, José Saramago, El Carmen, Río Segura library and Saavedra Fajardo library.

An extensive Municipal Library Network

The Municipal Library Network has a total of 18 service points located in the districts of Cabezo de Torres, El Palmar, La Alberca, Puente Tocinos, Beniaján, El Puntal, El Raal, Guadalupe, Javalí Nuevo, La Ñora and Sangonera la Verde, as well as in the neighborhoods of Espinardo, La Fama, San Basilio, Santiago El Mayor, two centers in the Carmen neighborhood and the Saavedra Fajardo library.
