The University of Murcia rewards the best end of degree and master's degree projects in the field of gender equality (06/03/2020)

The University of Murcia has delivered this Monday the awards for the best end of degree and master's degree in the field of gender equality, which this course celebrates its second edition.

The event was held in the Gallery of Rectors of the Convalescence building.

In this second edition, 13 proposals for final degree projects and 5 final master projects from various disciplines and faculties of the University of Murcia have participated.

Experts from each of the branches of knowledge have participated in the selection committee of the best works, in addition to the director of the Unit for Equality between Women and Men of the UMU, Carmen Sánchez Trigueros.

The winning proposals have fallen on:

María del Mar García Cánovas.

Prize for the best Final Degree Project in Computer Engineering under the title 'Automatic detection of misogyny', for being a very topical work that investigates the detection of hate messages towards women in social networks beyond the established algorithms.

Carlota Roca Belíjar.

Prize for the best Final Master's Degree in Gender and Equality under the title 'Gender violence: a general approach from the perspective of social work', for incorporating different proposals for improvement for the existing action protocol in the Region of Murcia for situations of gender violence, and in which the intervention of those who work in Social Work is decisive.

María Muñoz Lorente.

First second prize to the Final Degree Project in Physiotherapy under the title 'Experiences and reflections of female physiotherapists on inappropriate sexual behavior of patients: a descriptive study', because it is a work of great scientific quality, offering alarming data that take the light a situation that has been normalized for a long time, such as the sexualization of the profession of physiotherapist as a reality that surrounds it.

Jennifer Fuentes Vivancos.

Second accésit to the Final Degree Project in Spanish Language and Literature under the title 'The Post-war period in women: Vision, life and control of invisible Spain', for demonstrating that a literary text can be a novel source in the study for equality between women and men, bringing history closer to the post-war social reality and focusing it on women.

Mª del Rosell Ros García.

Third second prize to the Final Degree Project in Law and ADE under the title 'Historical-business study of women in the Business Administration Councils', for contributing to knowledge about gender inequalities with a study of high scientific and social interest in the business field, analyzing women's access to managerial positions.

Paula Martínez López.

Accésit to the Final Master's Degree in Gender and Equality under the title 'Anarchist women in the Region of Murcia during the Civil War', for choosing a little researched theme and exposing the relevance of libertarian women in the Region of Murcia who made their way at a time when the libertarian movement itself excluded them considering them a division of the anarchist struggle.

Carmen Sánchez Trigueros, director of the Unit for Equality between Women and Men, highlighted the importance of these awards to "make visible the magnificent work done at the University of Murcia in research on gender equality in all disciplines."

Rector Luján congratulated the winners, the tutors and tutors of the works and the deanery and centers for having been involved in strengthening the lines of research related to this topic.

Finally, he stressed that these awards perfectly align the daily university work with the fact of facing the challenges posed by society, such as gender equality.

The act has ended with the reading of the manifesto on the occasion of 8M de la Crue - Spanish Universities.

and representatives of students, teachers and administration staff have been the people in charge of reading.
