The Murcian woman claims equality in sport, education and communication (06/03/2020)

The Plenary Hall hosted the institutional act of International Women's Day, which was attended by students, journalists, professors and representatives of the Women's Centers, among other groups.

During the ceremony, the prize 'Murcia en Igualdad' was presented, which fell on the Colombine platform, promoted by Murcia journalists.

The event was opened and closed by the Coral Discantus, to the rhythm of pop and gospel music.

The Plenary Hall of the City Council distinguished this morning the work of women and institutions that are a benchmark in their sector, in an institutional event held on the occasion of International Women's Day, which was opened and closed by the music of the Discantus Choir to rhythm of pop and gospel music, with the interpretation of the songs 'Who cares' and 'Happy Day'.

“Today we pay tribute to all those women who have made their way in the defense of freedom and self-thinking;

Pioneer women who mark the path along which we must travel the rest of society, â€said the mayor of Murcia, who congratulated Murcia journalists who make up the Colombine platform,“ heiresses of Carmen de Burgos, who have joined you to give voice to those who don't have it and defend the word as the most effective tool against inequality and intolerance. â€

Specifically, International Women's Day is commemorated this Sunday, March 8.

Equality in sport, education and communication

The Plenary Hall hosted the award of the 'Murcia in Equality' award, with which the City Council recognizes those people or entities that have excelled in the struggle for equality, and that fell to Colombine, the Women's Platform for feminist journalists of the Murcia region.

Maica Sánchez, Margarita Garrido and María González were the members of this entity that collected the prize.

The 'Equality in Sport' distinction was also awarded, with 1,500 euros for each of the distinguished centers for sports equipment, which went to the CEIB Arteaga de Sucina and IES Miguel de Cervantes schools, a distinction with which the Murcia City Council recognizes the success of the School Sports Program for the promotion of education in equality, the breakdown of sexist stereotypes in sports practice and the promotion of the value of competition among female students.

Likewise, the distinction of the contest 'Educating for equality' went to the Santa María de la Paz and Barriomar 74 schools, and the prize 'Building Equality, Prevention of Gender Violence' went to the IES Marqués de los Vélez.

The event, which was attended by the Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, attended by people of all ages, including representatives of Women's Centers in the municipality of Murcia, members of the Municipal Boards and students of the CEIP Ortega institutes, HE Miguel de Cervantes and CEIP Barriomar.

Also present were the Director General of Women, María José García, representatives of the Municipal Equality Council, members of the Municipal Corporation, Senator Violante Tomás and the Gender Violence coordinating technician of the Government Delegation, María Luisa Barreda.
