The leadership of women, key in the management positions of UCAM (05/03/2020)

The Catholic University of Murcia, which joins the campaign "I am from the Generation of Equality: For the rights of women", is one of the few universities in Spain that has a rector.

He also has women in other academic positions, such as vice rectors or deans and in the direction of various departments of administration and services.

The rector Josefina García, the vice chancellors Estrella Núñez (Research) and Belén López (Online Teaching) are the spearhead of the great role of women in the management positions of UCAM.

In addition, numerous degrees are directed by women: ADE, Labor Relations, Tourism, Audiovisual Communication, Journalism, Psychology, Infant and Primary Education, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dance and Computer Engineering.

In the field of chairs, the one of 'Women, Business and Sports' stands out, which carries out numerous activities and training courses throughout the year, focusing its objectives on promoting employment and entrepreneurship among women.

Crue Spanish Universities has sent a statement offering the current photography of the Spanish university field reflecting the need to continue moving forward so that women have a more decisive role in management positions: "In the last two decades, we have achieved that our classrooms are integrated by women and men in a balanced way The cloisters have also made progress in this regard, where teachers have already exceeded the 40% barrier, however, this has not been achieved at the highest levels of the academic and scientific career, where it persists that glass ceiling that makes only 24% professors. And in the case of deans, vice chancellors and principals, that percentage is even lower. "

One of the engines of UCAM, sport, is key when it comes to making visible the need to achieve equality.

Athletes like Mireia Belmonte, Lydia Valentín, Maialen Chourraut, María Pérez, Ana Carrasco or Laura Gil, all of them linked to UCAM, inspire thousands of girls and young people who dream of becoming great sports stars but, through Their sporting successes also raise awareness in the rest of society about the need to continue working to break down the remaining walls and achieve full equality between men and women.
