CCOO urges the City of Murcia and Education to quickly repair the roof of the CEIP Virgen del Rosario (04/03/2020)

The Federation of Teaching Workers Commissions (FECCOO) Region of Murcia urges the City of Murcia and the Ministry of Education to coordinate urgently to repair the uralite roof in the CEIP Virgen del Rosario in the Cave (Monteagudo, Murcia), after the fall of several branches due to strong wind gusts on Monday caused the breakage of part of the asbestos plates, which has put the parents and mothers of the educational center on alert, who fear that students can see themselves affected by the propagation of fiber cement particles.

CCOO Teaching urges the competent authorities to promptly eliminate the school's atmosphere, whose withdrawal of this material is scheduled for 2023, despite the continuing complaints of parents for lack of preventive measures.

It is unacceptable that students and teachers are exposed to a broken asbestos roof, just when the fiber is at greater risk, and to particles propagated by strong winds.

The union denounced in May 2018 the existence of 130 centers with asbestos in the Region of Murcia, a figure that increased to the current 180 educational buildings, and insisted on the need for a study on the degree of deterioration, in order to prioritize the actions, and in removing the fiber cement before 2028, the deadline imposed by the European Parliament, within a multiannual rehabilitation plan for these centers,

CCOO Enseñanza once again regrets the inaction and abandonment of regional and local governments in the face of the demands to accelerate the work of eliminating potentially carcinogenic materials from schools, remaining once again lagging behind neighboring communities, such as Valencia And Andalusian.
