The installation of new LED luminaires on Avenida de los Pinos reduces the emission of 28 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere (04/03/2020)

The artery will have 92 new energy-efficient light points, going from a total power of 25,300 W to 6,900 W, which means a reduction in installed power of 18,400 W and an economic saving of 8,000 per year.

The City Council has already modernized the luminaries of a total of 10 avenues of the municipality so far this year, reducing the installed power by more than 74,000 W and the emission of more than 100 tons of CO2.

José Guillén: "In addition to the environmental benefits, these actions contribute to improving the safety of our citizens, making our urban arteries more visible, both for the pedestrian and for the drivers who pass them."

The City Council, through the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, continues with the work of modernizing public lighting in different streets and districts of the municipality, within the strategy Murcia Smart City.

Councilor José Guillén has visited Avenida de los Pinos this morning, where the luminaries are being renovated by other ultra-low-consumption Philips of the latest generation.

Specifically, the lighting of the road is being renewed with the installation of 92 new LED technology light points, from a total power of 25,300 W to 6,900 W, which means a reduction of the installed power of 18,400 W and a saving economic of 8,000 a year.

In this way, the installation of new energy-efficient light points on Avenida de Los Pinos in Murcia will reduce the emission of 28 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

In the words of the councilor, “with these lighting actions we contribute, therefore, in the fight to curb climate change and have a cleaner air, but we also focus on the safety of our citizens, making our urban arteries more visible for both pedestrian as for the drivers who pass them â€.

The new ultra-low power Philips LED prototypes improve visibility by 40% in normal road conditions and 80% in rainy situations.

In addition to renovation work, streetlight cleaning is also carried out in order to keep these facilities in perfect condition.

Ten avenues of the municipality with new lighting of low consumption

The City Council, through the Public Lighting service, under the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, has already modernized the luminaries of ten avenues of the municipality of Murcia so far this year: C / Navegante Juan Fernández (15 );

C / Casteliche (7);

C / Our Lady of Good Books (11);

C / Olma and Huerto Pomares (18);

Lorca Avenue of Sangonera la Seca (134);

C / Huerto Manu (15);

C / Isaac Albéniz (20);

Garden setting 3 Cups (25);

C / Olof Palme and Others (33);

and Avenue of the Pines (92).

Specifically, during January and February 2020, a total of 370 new LED technology light points have been installed in Murcia and districts.

In this way, it has gone from a total power of 101,750 W to 27,523 W, which implies a reduction of the installed power of 74,227 W.

As for the environmental benefits, the renovation of luminaires carried out in the municipality throughout this year will reduce the emission of 113 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and will save 32,214 euros a year.

“With these improvements, the commitments assumed by the City Council to curb climate change are met, as this technology reduces the consumption and emission of carbon dioxide, and adds to other measures, such as the Forest Plan or the Air Strategy Clean, â€explains José Guillén.
