The City of Murcia expands the mobile units of the Local Police and already rubs 300 vehicles (04/03/2020)

Thirteen new vehicles are added to the Corps mobile park to improve public safety, with an investment of 300,000 euros.

José Ballesta: "This investment not only optimizes and facilitates the work of our agents, but it is an investment that reverts directly to citizens, increasing the levels of security and immediate attention throughout the municipality."

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Councilor for Citizen Security and Economic Management, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, today presented the new mobile units that expand the mobile park of the Local Police and with which the Corps reaches already close to 300 vehicles.

In total, there are 13 new vehicles: 8 motorcycles, 4 vans and a truck, which add to the existing ones, reaching 282 units.

“This investment not only optimizes and facilitates the work of our agents, but it is an investment that reverts directly to citizens, since it will allow to increase the levels of security and immediate attention in the whole municipality,†said José Crossbow.

In 2016, 2 SUVs, 13 passenger cars, a mobile radar car for speed controls and 5 motorcycles were added to the fleet.

In 2017, 7 SUVs were added to increase police presence in the countryside and mountain areas of the districts.

Last fall the Murcia Local Police included two drones in their equipment to monitor areas of difficult access, devices that can reach up to 72 km / h and ascend to a height of 6,000 meters.

300,000 euros of investment

The acquisition of the new vehicles has meant an investment close to 300,000 euros by the City of Murcia, which have been acquired through the General Directorate of State Heritage.

Within the expansion of the vehicles, 8 motorcycles of the Yamaha brand and MT900 model have been acquired, the most powerful motorcycles that have been in the Body to date (900 cc), with the relevant equipment.

They will be assigned to the Bikers Group to monitor traffic.

In addition, 4 NISSAN NV300 (1997 cc) vans, with the necessary equipment, have been purchased, which will be destined to the Special Group of Citizen Security (GESC) for crime prevention, and a Renault Master L2-107 open-box truck, for the Multipurpose Group, which will be used in signaling and urban mobility tasks.

Towards clean mobility

The Local Police also has two electric mopeds, two electric bicycles and an electric scooter.

In this regard, the mayor said that "the acquisition of hybrid and electric vehicles will be promoted, to favor clean and sustainable mobility, as is already being done in other municipal services such as waste collection or public transport."

More than 200,000 calls answered

In the last year, the Local Police answered about 200,000 calls, 40,000 more than in the previous year.

The actions of tutors, neighborhood police, community police and ecological patrol have multiplied.

New services have been added, such as the police of the districts, which will begin patrolling this month, the tourist police and the leisure police, which complete the work carried out by already consolidated services such as the family care and protection team, which performs an effective work against gender violence and helping children.

"In short, a citizen security policy capable of balancing prevention and control with the attack on crime, at all levels," said the councilor, who added that "our commitment is to support this essential public service with more means, since the Security investment is indispensable for a coexistence in freedom â€.
