The University of Murcia (UMU), the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and the Association of Economists of the Region of Murcia (CERM) have signed on Tuesday the agreement that creates the Chair of Competitiveness, which was born with the objective to promote studies that help identify factors that strengthen economic growth and job creation.
The signing of the agreement has been ratified by José Luján, rector of the UMU;
Alejandro Díaz, rector of the UPCT;
and Ramón Madrid, dean of the College of Economists.
The agreement aims to establish a permanent collaborative structure between the CERM, promoter of the chair, the UMU and the UPCT, through the creation of this interuniversity platform called 'Chair of Competitiveness-College of Economists and Mare Nostrum Campus'.
As a result of this collaboration, concrete objectives linked to the analysis of competitiveness will be developed, such as the study of the position and competitive evolution (from an aggregate, sectoral and business approach);
training activities and dissemination actions related to the subject;
favor university-business links and knowledge transfer.
The main objective and mission of this first Chair of Competitiveness is to connect knowledge, talent and resources together between the two universities and the College of Economists and the business sector in order to boost the competitiveness of the Region of Murcia.
Research, dissemination or training activities may be developed by the research groups and centers of both universities, although they can accommodate external researchers and professionals or collaborating entities, with the purpose of setting up a team around the Chair Multidisciplinary and specialized to carry out its activities in a framework of close collaboration and cooperation.
In this context, there would be room for studies related to the different areas that determine competitiveness, such as human capital and education, the labor market, strategy, financing and business dimension, infrastructure and physical capital, innovation or innovation. institutional environment
The Chair will have the affiliation of companies and institutions that support its objectives and purposes, and will be directed by a Board of Directors composed of representatives of the entities signing the agreement, as well as representatives of the collaborators or sponsors who, among other functions, will be responsible for approving the annual production of studies and other activities.
Among other priority projects that will be developed by this new Chair, the observatory of SME evolution, study of digitalization in SMEs, as well as an analysis of financial knowledge in companies.
It is also planned to carry out studies from a more macroeconomic perspective with the monitoring of indicators of the binomial 'Region of Murcia and competitiveness' and its implications, an analysis that allows to have a greater knowledge of the sectorial productivity and the realization of estimates of economic growth and employment .
This chair is integrated in the Mare Nostrum Campus of International Excellence.
