The intrusion of air of African origin throughout the Region requires activating level 3 of the pollution protocol (29/02/2020)

A new intrusion of a mass of air d of African origin in the Region of Murcia has forced the City Council to activate Level 3 of the Protocol of measures to be taken during episodes of air pollution, of atmospheric alert situation.

This is due to the fact that the average daily value of 100 µg / m³ of PM10 particles was exceeded yesterday in the automatic air pollution control and surveillance stations in Alcantarilla and San Basilio.

The average daily concentration of Alcantarilla yesterday was 159 µg / m³ of PM10 Particles, with that of San Basilio being 112 µg / m³.

Thus, the general recommendations are as follows:

The Local Police will ensure that the circulation is as smooth as possible, avoiding traffic jams of motor vehicles in the city and neighboring districts and that prolonged or unnecessary stops are not made while the engine is running (waiting, loading and unloading, long traffic lights / medium duration).

In addition, the agents will control the loading and unloading areas and the operators are recommended to carry out these tasks later than 6:00 p.m. and with the engines of the vehicles off.

The competent authority is also requested to divert the passage of trucks and buses as it passes through Ronda Oeste, specifically at the junction with the UMU, for traffic in the direction from Madrid, and at the El Palmar junction, when the Port is lowered of the Chain, for the traffic that comes from Cartagena.

In both cases, the alternative itinerary is the Alcantarilla highway.

Likewise, notice is sent to the nearest town halls and possible industries involved, information will be transferred to risk groups, health and hospital centers, educational centers, nursing homes, day centers and sports centers.

The protocol also provides for the stoppage of works until the deactivation of the protocol (Local Police and Service with powers in inspection of works and activities).

The Traffic Control Room has launched the publication of specific messages addressed to drivers on the access road panels 'Atmospheric Alert';

'Avoid accessing the center';

'Use deterrent parking lots';

and 'Drive efficiently.'

The Municipal Services of Environment and Traffic remind the location of free parking in the accesses or the surroundings of the city: Nueva Condomina, Thader Shopping Center, Sports Palace, Auditorium and congress center, Carrefour Infante, Barriomar, " La Molinera ", Malecon and Ronda Norte.

Likewise, there are parking lots for public use in Fuenteblanca, La Arrixaca, Ciudad de la Justicia, Artillery Barracks, Plano San Francisco, Avenida de los pinos and Meeting Point.

It is requested to motor vehicles with more than 10 years old that do not access the interior area delimited by Ronda Oeste, Ronda Sur, Avda. Los Dolores, Avda. Miguel Indurain, Avda. Reino de Murcia and Avda. Doctor Pedro Guillén.

The local police will also recommend to the people, especially the elderly and children, that they are in parks and green areas exercising their non-practical exercise, under their responsibility.

In the sports centers, it will be informed through the public address system and advise visitors not to perform physical activity and the workers will remain alert to any emergency situation that may occur between users and will be quickly communicated to the Municipal Police or Center nearest toilet

Recommendations for the population

- Opt for trips on foot or by bicycle, choosing streets with little traffic.

- Use whenever you can public transport to reduce traffic.

- If you have to take the car, share the journey with other people.

Keep it in perfect condition and use catalysts that regulate exhaust gases.

If you have different vehicles, use the one with the lowest emissions.

Perform efficient driving: start gently, use the engine brake, avoid acceleration and sudden braking, etc.

Try to reduce the speed of movement.

- If possible, work remotely, vary the work schedule to travel by public transport, work at the location of the company closest to your home, etc.

- Turn off unnecessary lights and devices that you are not using.

- Lower the temperature of the heating or air conditioning of the houses in order to minimize energy consumption.

- The burning of stubble and agricultural margins foreseen in the Order of October 19, 2017, by which the phytosanitary measures to be adopted in case of accumulation of plant remains will be postponed.

- Take care of the surrounding vegetation: plants capture pollutants present in the air.

- Make the most of your neighborhood services to avoid unnecessary travel

- It is recommended to reduce ventilation in homes.

People most sensitive to air pollution, such as children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems, should avoid any physical exertion and outdoor exercises until the episode of contamination is remitted.

Precautionary measures

Regarding the preventive measures to be adopted by all citizens to improve air quality, the following stand out:

At home:

Buy local or seasonal products: this way we help reduce pollutant emissions from road traffic.

Avoid the consumption of products with substances toxic to the environment or the atmosphere: it will cause us not to introduce substances that worsen our health into our bodies.

Use paints and cleaning products without organic solvents.

It uses solar thermal and photovoltaic energy to heat and produce electricity: it does not generate atmospheric emissions.

Avoid air conditioning in summer and minimize the use of heating in winter.

If necessary, in summer, keep the air conditioner at a temperature not lower than 24 ºC, and in winter try to keep it between 19 and 21 ºC.

At work:

Opt for trips on foot or by bicycle, choosing streets with little traffic.

Always use public transport to reduce traffic.

If you have to take the car, share the journey with other people.

Keep it in perfect condition and use catalysts that regulate exhaust gases.

If you have different vehicles, use the one with the lowest emissions.

Make efficient driving: start gently, use the engine brake, avoid acceleration and sudden braking, etc.

Try to reduce the speed of movement.

If possible, work remotely, vary the work schedule to travel by public transport, work at the location of the company closest to your home, etc.

Turn off unnecessary lights and devices you are not using.

In the free time:

Prioritize travel on foot, by bicycle or with public transport.

Opt for high energy efficient vehicles and drive efficiently.

Take care of the surrounding vegetation: plants capture pollutants present in the air.

Make the most of your neighborhood services to avoid unnecessary travel.

Industrial collaboration tips:

- Replace technology and processes with less polluting ones.

- Increase vigilance and control over the contaminating effects of your products.

- Offer to the market products that during their useful life contaminate as little as possible.

- Use renewable and clean energy.

- Manufacture recyclable or biodegradable products, whenever possible
