The restored image of the Fuensanta "may fulfill the tradition of being with Murcia in Lent, Easter and Spring Festivities" (28/02/2020)

The size has been treated in the Restoration Center of the Region of Murcia and has allowed to strengthen its structure and that the image of the Child recover the original brown color of his hair

The head of the regional executive, Fernando López Miras, delivered "in time and form" the image of the Virgin of Fuensanta, Patroness of Murcia, who underwent a deep process of analysis and recovery at the Regional Center of Restoration of the Autonomous Community, "so that you can download, as tradition dictates, to spend Lent, Holy Week and Spring Festival with all Murcia in the Cathedral."

"It is an honor to be able to deliver the patron of all Murcia to the Diocese of Cartagena," said the president, who said the image "has been in the best hands and today we can see the result."

The restoration of the image of the Patron Saint of Murcia began in July 2019, at which time it was exposed to a thorough scientific study and where the complexity of a sculpture that over several centuries has undergone numerous modifications was verified.

Both in its external configuration (polychromies, gold, surfaces) and structural, the size presented important deficiencies that have been corrected.

In addition, the accommodation of small elements that constitute the good state of conservation of a solid structure in arms, torso and armed winder has been intensified.

"Perhaps the most striking is the color the hair of the Child, who returns to the brunette, his original color," said López Miras.

This image presented an important sweep of its polychromy derived from improper cleaning, as well as multiple repainting and punctual detachment of polychrome strata.

The president also praised "the importance of the image of the Virgin of Fuensanta, not only for its artistic and heritage value, but also sentimental," and said that it is "a fundamental part of history, culture, religious worship and the tradition of Murcia ".

López Miras also thanked the work of the Restoration Center, "pioneer, exemplary and with top-level professionals, such as the one in the Region of Murcia."

Currently, in this center there is, among others, the image of the Virgen de la Caridad, patron saint of Cartagena, who "as technicians move us, may be in the port city before Dolores Friday, Cartagena's big day", said the president, who insisted that "the security and conservation of images will always be prioritized."
