The residents of La Flota will release the new organic waste collection service tomorrow Friday (27/02/2020)

Neighbors who request it can obtain a small domestic container for this type of waste free of charge |

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has presented the launch of the organic waste collection service in the Flota neighborhood, which will begin tomorrow Friday.

Thus, during this week the 28 new containers have been distributed that have a capacity of 2,200 liters and that incorporate a brown lid that closes it completely to avoid odors.

This morning a team composed of the collection vehicle and a foreman have reviewed each point, lifting the new containers to check their perfect operation.

The new brown container will be placed next to the rest and yellow because they are the most waste generation.

The review has been carried out with the vehicle that will cover the new service in order to verify that the route is efficient.

In addition, residents who request it can obtain a small domestic container designed for this type of waste, which must always be used with compostable bags.

For this, the bio patrols have established different points in the Flota neighborhood in the morning and afternoon.

Those interested in getting this small container only have to conduct a brief survey and then proceed to the delivery of their new container, along with information about the new service.

Until next Monday, March 2, the patrols will be located in the following areas from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Thursday: South Zone Garden of the Three Cups

Friday: C. Health / Institute;

C / J. García Abellán

Monday: C. Health / Institute;

Garden of the Three Cups

During these months an information campaign has been developed to reach all restaurants and neighbors through these patrols to inform about their use, location and all the details.

In addition, information channels such as the microsite murciasumauno.es, and the usual services such as www.murciaciudadsostenible.es and social networks have been opened.

Organic residues of fruit and vegetables, remains of cooked food, eggshells, seafood and nuts, coffee grounds and infusions or corks, matches and sawdust are considered organic waste.

This new brown lid container completes the Murcia recycling system that already has a yellow container for lightweight plastic, metal and briks containers, a blue container for paper and cardboard, the green igloo for glass and clean ecopoints for oils , light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, batteries and batteries, empty cans of varnish or paint, small electronic scrap, x-rays, clothes and toys, etc.

The new service is part of the project for which Murcia has been chosen by the European Union to pioneer the ValueWaste project, a community program to convert urban organic waste into strategic economic resources.

This project proposes an integrated approach in the recycling of urban bio-waste for the production of high-value biological products, developing the first complete solution to fully value bio-waste that can be reproduced throughout Europe.

The project has 17 partners of 6 different nationalities, among which the City of Murcia and the City of Kalundborg (Denmark), municipalities in which the pilot projects are carried out.

Murcia has the support of Ferrovial Services for the implementation of good practice at the local level and the project is coordinated by the Technological Center of the Environment of the Region of Murcia (Cetenma).

This project proposes solutions to problems such as the management of bio-waste generated in the municipality, as well as the search for alternative sources for human and animal feed.

Derived from the above, a leading technology in waste management will be developed, creating new jobs and opening a change in awareness and legislation regarding food and waste in the European Union.

The project is co-financed by the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program of the European Union under Grant Agreement No. 818312. For the 2018 call, only two H2020 projects were funded at European level by the Directorate General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, this being the one with the highest budget
