The University of Murcia (UMU) has been selected as a finalist of the prizes of the X National Congress of Innovation and Public Services (# CNIS2020) for the ODSesiones project, dedicated to sensitize the university community and Murcia society about the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) determined by the United Nations.
The jury has chosen ODSessions among more than a hundred candidates, and the UMU is the only Spanish university candidate to receive one of the awards in the framework of # CNIS2020, whose prizes are awarded on March 4 at 6:00 p.m. the auditorium La Nave de Madrid.
The UMU will compete with the Diputación de Palencia and the municipalities of Denia and El Campello in the category of 'Best Corporate Social Responsibility project and alignment with the SDGs (2030 Agenda)'.
A project for change
ODS sessions organize from February 2019 until May 2021 more than 300 activities on the 17 SDGs.
In 2019 they have carried out almost 250 activities attended by 16,650 people, who have given an average rating of 8.4.
In addition, this initiative had the help of 155 volunteers last year, mostly UMU students.
In addition, more than 300 companies, institutions and entities from the third sector of the Region of Murcia have already participated in this project.
ODSesiones is a project led by the Vice Chancellor for Social Responsibility and Transparency of the UMU, Longinos Marín, which last December 2019 received the 'Rainbow' award from the Association of Associated Labor Cooperatives of the Region of Murcia (Ucomur), in recognition of its commitment to the SDGs.
March, the month of SDG 9
After organizing thematic activities on 'End of poverty' (SDG 1), 'Zero hunger' (SDG 2), 'Health and Wellbeing' (SDG 3), 'Quality education' (SDG 4), 'Gender equality '(SDG 5),' Clean water and sanitation '(SDG 6) and' Affordable and non-polluting energy '(SDG 7), and' Decent work and economic growth '(SDG 8), the month of March is dedicated to the SDG 9: 'Industry, innovation and infrastructure'.
