The Transportation Bureau prioritizes the improvement of public transport of districts (26/02/2020)

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has chaired the Transportation Board, an advisory body for participation that addresses the various issues related to mobility.

The meeting was attended by the Director General of Mobility and Coast of the CARM, representatives of the political groups, of the different concessionary companies, of the taxi sector, of CERMI, of the Municipal Bicycle Office, of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations , from the Murcia Federation of Housewives, Consumers and Users ThaderConsumo, and Ecologists in Action, and municipal technicians.

In this morning's session, the technical assistance related to the realization of the management model of urban municipal transport lines of the City Council, on the progress of the drafting works of the mobility ordinance, on the situation of urban and interurban transport lines, and on the beginning of the work of evaluation of economic and technical impact of the different modes of transport.

Likewise, the new protocol in which the City Council and the Autonomous Community have worked is aimed at creating a Metropolitan Area of ​​Public Transport of Travelers, which will improve the transportation service received by more than 10 million people a year, which It has been announced this morning by the Mayor and the Minister of Development and Infrastructure.

Thus, Rebeca Pérez has valued the meeting "as very positive since we all agree that the reorganization of all public transport is a priority, especially in districts. We work from dialogue and consensus to facilitate the right to effective mobility and efficient of all Murcia. "

Thus, on the 'Study of reorganization of urban transport in the city of Murcia' at the meeting it has been reported that next week will begin the conduct of personalized interviews with the presidents of the Municipal Boards and the 5,500 neighborhood surveys , of which 2,072 will be carried out in the urban area and 3,528 in districts.

In these surveys you will be asked about the trips made the day before the call.

On the mobility ordinance, the different articles that were studied in the first meeting of the participatory process of this new regulation have been discussed and the celebration of a new meeting has been announced for the beginning of March

What is intended with this new regulation is to harmonize the different uses of urban roads and spaces from a shared vision of mobility, taking into account pedestrian use, vehicle traffic, parking, transportation of people, distribution of goods, and different uses related to mobility, and increase road safety, protect people's health, bet on environmental sustainability, order road uses and include new modes of transport.

Thus, different aspects have been analyzed such as coexistence in public roads and spaces, access restrictions and speed limitations for environmental reasons, the priority of pedestrians, bicycle and public transport, the type of public roads, mobility by bicycle, scooters and personal mobility vehicles or transport cycles of people or goods, among others.

The need to regulate the use of scooters has also been addressed since this means of transport is increasingly used by Murcia and the provision of a public scooter rental service, either by public tender or managed directly by the City Council .

Regarding the different means of transport, the Councilor for Mobility and Youth has stressed that "the important thing is the interconnection between population centers, giving maximum importance to the districts, all the means of transport being compatible".
