Correos today presents the stamp dedicated to the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy Murcia 2020 (26/02/2020)

Correos has issued 160,000 stamps that will announce this capital attached to postal shipments with A2 rate

Correos has presented today in Murcia the stamp issued by the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy Murcia 2020. The event was also attended by the Director of the Area of Philately, Modesto Fraguas, the Mayor of Murcia, José Francisco Ballesta, the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, María Cristina Sánchez and the president of the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, Mariano Palacín.

The act has also served to circulate a postmark presenting this seal.

"La Huerta de los 1.001 flavors", motto with which Murcia has won the award, takes over from Almería who held this title last year, being also the main reason for the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy philatelic series, which Correos It has been broadcasting for years.

With this philatelic series, Correos values the gastronomy of the different Spanish cities that, each year, present themselves with enthusiasm and do their best to win this award.

The seal is starring various fruits and vegetables surrounding a spoon and a fork that are linked forming a heart.

All these products are the best representation of the Region of Murcia, known as "the orchard of Europe", for the large number of exports that it makes to most European countries.

Tomatoes, grapes, cabbage or carrots, are the main protagonists of this garden that each year moves goods worth approximately 3,000 million.

The motto "La Huerta de los 1.001 flavors" completes the design of a stamp that adds to previous ones such as those dedicated to cities such as Toledo, Huelva or León, and that will travel throughout Spain being a great showcase for Murcian gastronomy.

The stamp carries an associated A2 rate, that is, it will serve as postage for non-standardized national correspondence up to 50 grams in weight.

The zarangollo, the roasted lamb, the michirones, the Murcian salad or the paparajote, are some of the dishes of the culinary offer of this Region that, together with their denominations of origin made the jury to opt for Murcia in this year 2020.

Remember that in 2017 the postal company already dedicated two stamps to Murcian gastronomy.

At that time, Calasparra rice and Jumilla wine were the protagonists of a block sheet within the issuance of Protected Designations of Origin.

During 2020, Murcia will offer a multitude of activities related to the restoration such as workshops, competitions or tastings, which will become a most attractive tourist offer.
