City Hall and CARM will create a Metropolitan Transportation Area that will benefit 10 million people a year (26/02/2020)

José Ballesta: "Our transport model must be a reference not only for our city, but for all 10 municipalities and more than 664,000 people who are part of the metropolitan area of ​​Murcia."

The Consistory and the Regional Government will approve a Metropolitan Transportation Plan, which will establish both the management model and the necessary financing, and that will give way to the creation of the new Metropolitan Transportation Area of ​​Murcia.

La Glorieta assumes line 45, which was to be completely abolished, and the services eliminated from lines 7 and 28, so that the expeditions will continue normally on March 1 and users will not suffer any discomfort.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, held today a work meeting in which they advanced on the points that will build the new Protocol between both Administrations and by which a Metropolitan Area of ​​Public Transport of Travelers, which will improve the transport service received by more than 10 million people a year.

José Ballesta said that “more than 10 million people travel each year through our municipality to make arrangements, go to hospitals, work or enjoy culture and leisure.

Our transport model must be a reference not only for our city, but a success shared by the more than 664,000 people that are part of the metropolitan area of ​​Murcia â€.

In addition to the inhabitants of the municipality of Murcia (453,000 people), this area will benefit citizens of nine other municipalities adjacent to the capital of the Region: Molina de Segura (71,800), Alcantarilla (42,000), Las Torres de Cotillas (21,400 ), Archena (19,300), Santomera (16,200), Beniel (11,300), Ceutí (11,700), Alguazas (9,600) and Lorquí (7,100).

Specifically, both Administrations promote this framework of collaboration and coordination with their own management competencies, understanding that the city of Murcia determines an economic, social and labor area that generates mobility demands that exceed the limits of the municipality.

We welcome people from other municipalities in our environment because we are administrative capital, â€said José Ballesta, who stressed that“ society asks us to defend a common transport project, a well-defined project that integrates and optimizes the best means of transport for Murcia of the 21st century â€.

In this sense, the Murcian councilor pointed out that “mobility is a citizen right that favors territorial vertebration and social cohesion, but to be effective and to respond to the demands of Murcia in the 21st century that mobility must be clean, sustainable , coordinated and socially profitable â€, and recalled that“ we are immersed in a process of transformation of our mobility model that will soon materialize with new media and a new management system â€.

Metropolitan Transportation Plan

The City of Murcia has just awarded the 'Study of reorganization of urban transport in the city of Murcia', which will allow the development of the new Murcia 2030 Mobility Plan;

while the Community is currently processing the project of the 'Master Plan for Passenger Transport of the Region of Murcia'.

After the preparation and coordination of these studies, both Administrations will approve a Metropolitan Transportation Plan, which will establish both the management model and the necessary financing, and that will be the one that will lead to the creation of the new Metropolitan Transportation Area of ​​Murcia.

The interested municipalities of the metropolitan area may adhere to the Protocol, through corresponding addenda to the Protocol that is expected to be signed by the City Council and Community after their corresponding approval in plenary.

The City Council assumes Line 45 and the suppressed services of lines 7 and 28

Among the different points of the meeting agenda, the situation of urban and interurban transport lines was also addressed.

Specifically, the City Council will assume the services of the three intercity lines whose services had suffered cuts or were to be suppressed in the coming days.

Specifically, line 45, which links Gea and Truyols, Sucina and Avileses with Murcia by the Arrixaca, was to be completely abolished.

The City Council is responsible for the service and, for this, line 70 (San Pedro del Pinatar-Murcia) will expand its itinerary.

The expeditions, which were to cease on March 1, will not be interrupted, so that users will not suffer any discomfort.

From line 7, which connects La Albatalía, Arboleja and Murcia, several reinforcement expeditions of the weekend and the first hours of the morning were to be eliminated, starting on March 1.

Similarly, the City Council takes over and the service will not be interrupted.

With respect to line 28, from Sangonera la Verde to Murcia, two reinforcement expeditions had been suppressed at 7.45 and 8.00 AM in mid-December, but the City Council has decided to assume it for its public interest and will resume these two frequencies from the March 1st.

The Consistory will finance all these services 100% with an investment of 133,000 euros.

Analysis of 1,580 stops in the municipality of Murcia

The 'Study of reorganization of urban transport in the city of Murcia' that has already begun to go will involve the preparation of the document that will collect the technical service project that will serve as the basis for the future tender of urban and metropolitan public transport from the municipality of Murcia.

Specifically, technical assistance has begun to analyze the 1,580 stops and 40 lines that make up the network of the public transport network of the municipality of Murcia, with a total of 584,000 expeditions between urban buses, intercity buses and the tram.

The study includes the conduct of more than 5,000 surveys, with an innovative segmentation system that increases the quality of the results obtained and guarantees citizen participation in the future Mobility Plan.

For this, the type and territorial distribution of the respondents will be taken into account according to the mobility results obtained from the mobile terminals (georeferencing), so that both data sources are compatible and enrich their merger.

In addition, interviews will also be conducted with the Presidents of the Municipal Boards about the mobility needs of the inhabitants of the different districts and neighborhoods of the municipality of Murcia.

All these issues will be reported at the Transportation Board of the City of Murcia, which meets today, at 12.30 pm, in the Noble Room of Moneo.
