The City Council closes the UMU Japanese Culture Festival with dance and demonstrations of this millenary art (21/02/2020)

The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, today received, in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, the Japanese ambassador in Spain, Hiramatsu Kenji, and the rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján Alcaráz, during the event of closing of the Nippon Bunkai-say, Festival of the Japanese Culture of the UMU.

The City Council concludes with this act the activities that have taken place throughout the week on the Asian country, from an Origami workshop, the tea ceremony or a seminar on Japan and its culture.

Councilwoman Mercedes Bernabé has intervened in the first place welcoming the attendees, telling them the importance of the room they were in, as well as the historical and commercial relations between the city of Murcia and Japan, as was the case with silk.

“It is a privilege to host an ancient culture like the Japanese in this plenary hall, to receive its ambassador in Spain and to collaborate with the UMU in this festival, which has been an opportunity to bring the art and idiosyncrasies of the Asian country to Murcia ”, Added the councilwoman.

During the event, the Haiku contest prizes have been awarded and a review of the activities carried out this week has been made.

In addition, attendees have been able to enjoy different Japanese demonstrations live, such as an exhibition of kimonos, a Bon-Odori folk dance show, as well as a sample of Laido, the art of Japanese saber.
