The PSOE warns that the road safety plan is "a waste of money that also does not guarantee safety" (21/02/2020)

The socialist councilor Antonio Benito says that an area of passage of wild animals that can now only circulate on the road has been closed, sharing the road with vehicles and walkers.

The Municipal Socialist Group requires that the utmost care be taken in the use of public money and that when an investment is made it is for a justified cause and, when appropriate, with technical reports that support it.

Therefore, the socialist councilor Antonio Benito says that the City Council has spent, under a road safety plan, 50,000 euros of public money used in a quitamiedos in the area of the White Majal, which worsens the safety of people, animals and cars.

Last January the councilor of mobility Rebeca Pérez published some photos announcing this new work as part of a plan to improve the road safety of the municipality: the closure with a bionda of a section of several hundred meters from the edge of the Forest Park Municipal Majal Blanco.

This is a very busy area for various species of wild animals, some of large size such as adult wild boar whose considerable size prevents them from circulating through their passageways.

"Before this work, both pedestrians and animals could circulate free in this area of the mountain. But this action of the town hall forces cars, pedestrians, cyclists and animals to circulate through the same space without the possibility of leaving during a fairly long stretch of a lane that is enclosed between the mountain and the bionda. "

The socialist councilor points out that: "it is not possible that this stretch needs an increase in security, especially at the crossing of the Rambla de los Arejos where some people have already had problems, but what has been done is an expensive, unnecessary work and dangerous because road safety worsens. "

The councilor points out that "weeks ago we asked the councilor responsible for all the reports related to this installation, but she does not share them, perhaps because they do not exist" and points out that "among other things, it would be necessary to check if these elements have been placed with everyone the permits and authorizations required by a protected municipal area. "

Remember that this measure is part of a list of 16 actions within the Road Safety Plan announced by the City Council.

"We demand that, urgently, the safety of this work be analyzed and, where appropriate, the relevant modifications are made," concludes Benito.
