The Association for People with Down Syndrome, Assido, a member of Plena Inclusion Region of Murcia, celebrates next Sunday, March 1, its eighth popular race on the promenade and the Malecon garden to which all Murcians are invited to participate and in which they hope to exceed a thousand participants, as in previous years.

The Councilor for Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, together with the Councilor for the Elderly and Disability, Paqui Pérez, and members of the Association and the Murcian Athletics Federation, presented today the sports event that will count, according to the ages of the participants, with different categories and distances, from 75 meters to 8,300 meters.

There is also a Family Solidarity March for those who want to walk to support the inclusion of people with Down syndrome with their family and friends.

The race will start at 10 am in the morning and the awards ceremony is scheduled for 13.30.

The registration fee ranges between 3 and 9 euros.

Under the motto 'Running with You', this race serves to celebrate the World Day of People with Down Syndrome, which is celebrated on March 21.

The collection obtained from the registration and the 'zero number' of all those who want to collaborate, will be used to provide support to people with Down syndrome and intellectual disability to advance their social inclusion.

"The sport is a practice open to all, fully accessible, and this race is an initiative that shows the diverse abilities of people with Down syndrome and do so with the collaboration of the entire society," said Councilor Felipe Coello.

For her part, the mayor Paqui Pérez has indicated that “initiatives like this help to make visible the group of people with Down syndrome and promote the active collaboration of Murcia in the development of solidarity activities and projects, achieving through full sport integration in all areas of society â€.

The race has the collaboration of the City of Murcia and the Murcia Athletics Federation, as well as different Murcia companies.

Those interested can register until February 27 for runners with chip and up to 26 for other participants.
