The City Council organizes more than a fortnight of activities to commemorate Women's Day under the slogan 'I am of the Generation Equality: For the rights of women' (20/02/2020)

The Department of Social and Family Rights has organized a complete program to commemorate International Women's Day, which is celebrated on March 8.

The activities, including cinema, theater, guided tours and conferences, among others, will begin on February 25 and will run until March 30.

The Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, has indicated that "we maintain our firm commitment to continue advancing in the development of gender equality policies at the municipal level, promoting equal opportunities between women and men in the municipality, including transversally the gender perspective in the planning, execution and evaluation of municipal policies ".

The activities organized to celebrate International Women's Day are added to the UN proposal adopted in 2020 by the slogan 'Generation Equality' which aims to raise public awareness of the need to strengthen the achievements made in this scope and continue to overcome discrimination based on gender and that this reverts to the achievement of a more just and equal society.

Thus, this year's program organized by the City Council, under the name 'I am of the Generation Equality: For the rights of women' are aimed at the entire population and are carried out in different scenarios and contexts in order to reach the largest number of people and groups, covering different fields such as cultural, artistic, communication, cooperation ...

"We seek to build networks that ensure conquered rights and remove obstacles that impede full equality, facilitating spaces for the visibility of women's contributions to culture, encouraging the inclusion of gender equality in educational center projects, promoting sport in girls, promoting the cinematographic and artistic productions of women or related to them, and highlighting the active role of women as agents of change for the improvement of the environment. "

For the first time, part of the film projections of the XI of the IBAFF Festival is included in the program of commemorative activities of the International Women's Day, highlighting the work of women in the cinema.

Thus, we will bet on gender mainstreaming throughout the programming of this edition of the IBAFF, both in the films of the official section and in the composition of the jury, which has 50% female representation.

In addition, on March 30, Cine Rex will host the public premiere of 'Mar', a short film made by Murcia producers Biopic Films and Maskeline A Visual Foundry, directed by Joaquín Carmona Hidalgo and written by Salvador Serrano, which deals with abuse Psychological

'Mar' tells the story of a woman who has lived unprotected all her life before the monster of abuse, before society, before insufficient and ineffective measures that, with the help of all, we can rethink, redefine and reinforce.

In the same session and they will screen other short films related to women.

Another novelty is that the March Mixtura event will be dedicated to gender equality, including the IV Meeting of Women of the World in Murcia, which is consolidated as a social and cultural space, of different cultures, countries and associations of women to pool proposals for promoting gender equality, good practices and demands that match all women, in their diversity.

Thus, on March 7, 'Mixtura por la Igualdad' will take a very participatory character to this meeting and will also offer a representation of samples of representative costumes from different countries and crafts with folk performances.

Likewise, the City Council of Murcia supports and promotes for the second year 'The Women's Race' which is consolidated as a massive activity that groups women of different ages, conditions and circumstances around a common desire: to move towards equality and strengthen Solidarity among women.

Also in the sports field, on March 28 and 29 the Sports Festival will be held in which visibility will be given to Murcian athletes.

The central activity of the program is the Institutional Act, which will be held on March 6 in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, through which the Plenary City Council expresses its commitment to gender equality in the municipality.

In the course of it, the different Prizes of educational competitions will be delivered:

- Equality in Sports Award to Educational Centers: IES Miguel de Cervantes and CEIB Arteaga de Sucina.

- Prize Educating in equality: Santa Mª School of Peace of Murcia.

-Award building equality.

Prevention of gender violence: IES Marqués de los Vélez de El Palmar.

The Murcia Equality Award will also be awarded to the Feminist Journalist Women's Platform of the Region of Murcia Colombine, for their work and activism in favor of gender equality and the visibility of women in the media.

Regarding the image presented for this campaign, it is intended to remember the priority areas in which it is proposed that there is still progress in equality and that has been developing since the International Women's Conference held in Beijing 25 years ago.

That is why these claims are shown through different faces of both women and men, conveying that in this advance the whole society has to be involved because their benefit affects everyone.

What is intended is to convey that this is the generation of equality and is made up of people of all ages and genders.

Through the Municipal Plan for equal opportunities between women and men, it promotes the involvement and commitment of all the Councils and municipal areas in the implementation of gender equality in municipal action.

The Equality Plan includes the specific objective of the strategic area of education for equality to inform, support and sensitize all citizens about the right to equal opportunities between genders, to eliminate those manifestations of gender inequality Produce at the municipal level.
