The #Matealestigma mural already looks in the Prince of Asturas Pavilion in Murcia (19/02/2020)

Real Murcia Basketball players and users of AFES-Mental Health Murcia and Comarcas have painted a drawing alluding to the stigma of mental health on one of the outdoor courts of the sports facility.

The graffiti has been preceded by the experience of Teresa Nimes who has offered in AFES a talk entitled "The sense of running"

The family photo in front of the mural #MatealEstigma has been the culmination of a sensitization action around the mental health of the Hestia Foundation has developed this Wednesday in Murcia.

Players of Real Murcia Basketball and users of AFES- Mental Health Murcia and Comarcas, have been in charge of coloring the mural #MatealEstigma alluding to the stigma of mental health that already looks in the Prince of Asturias Pavilion.

The day has started at 10 am, at the facilities that AFES has in Azarbe del Papel Street, with a meeting in which Teresa Nimes has explained her experience in the world of sports and how professional help contributed to overcome the most moments complicated

In his intervention entitled "The sense of running" the athlete has expressed his conviction that sport or physical activity, well supervised, could be key in personal development.

Subsequently, users and professionals of AFES, accompanied by members of the Hestia Foundation, have moved to the newly inaugurated exterior track of the pavilion for the mural graffiti, designed by the Menorcan illustrator Juan José Zacarías, Zaca.

Pulling brushes, expertise and good disposition, shortly before 1:30 p.m., the drawing has been colored, creating a moment of encounter between the collective of people with mental illness and basketball players.

Both actions are part of the #Matealestigma project with which the Hestia Foundation aims to promote physical activity as an instrument to improve mental health, promote social integration of groups with severe mental illness, and make mental illness visible and fight against their stigma.

This is the second season in which Fundación Hestia brings its #MatealEstigma project to Murcia, where last year two talks were organized in collaboration with AFES-Mental Health Murcia and Comarcas.

There is the circumstance that AFES, a non-profit association established on April 19, 1980, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Four decades working to improve the quality of life of people with mental health problems and that of their families.

AFES currently has its headquarters and a Day Center in Murcia, as well as another Day Center, a Residence and a Sheltered Housing in the town of Las Torres de Cotillas.

On this occasion, in addition to AFES, the athlete Teresa Nimes, Real Murcia Basketball and the City Council of Murcia have generously joined the project, which has made available to the Hestia Foundation the new outdoor track, made with recycled glass thanks to the campaign Ecoglass

With this graffiti, Real Murcia Basketball becomes the fifth LEB Plata team to participate in this initiative that has already had the support of Hestia Menorca (team sponsored by Hestia Foundation in the framework of its mental health awareness project ), Torrons Vicens CB L'Hospitalet, JAFEP Globalcaja La Roda Foundation, Barcelona FC Basketball and CB Benicarló.
