Honey and cheese, exceptional gastronomic pairing that will fill the square of Santo Domingo with flavor this weekend (19/02/2020)

The first open-air market with tastings of the three protected cheeses of the Region: fresh, cured and wine, accompanied by Murcian honey, reaches the heart of the city this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy 2020 bets on the 'Murcia Region Brand' with tastings that promote the different products of the land.

'La Huerta de los 1001 flavors: cheese and honey flavor' is the name of the new open-air market that will be released on February 21, 22 and 23, in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, a commitment to the 'Brand Region of Murcia 'as the Spanish capital of Gastronomy 2020.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, presented this morning the event at the Central Office of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy, located in the Romea Theater, next to the director of the tasting panel of the Protected Designation of Origin 'Quesos de Murcia', Eduardo Haba, and the technician of the Association of Beekeepers of the Region of Murcia, Carlos Zafra Santillana.

“This initiative has the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin 'Queso de Murcia', which represents seven large Murcia cheese factories producing the three protected cheeses in the Region: fresh, cured and wine,†said José Ballesta, who added that “for centuries, the shepherds of the Region of Murcia have elaborated traditionally cheeses with Murcian-Grenadian goat milk, food of limited production and first quality, made in the municipalities of Jumilla, Bullas, Yecla, Lorca, Cartagena, Calasparra, Águilas and Caravaca de la Cruz, who this weekend will be the protagonists of Murcia Spanish Capital of Gastronomy â€.

Likewise, “beekeepers and regional honey producers of the Association of Beekeepers of the Region, will also present their products with their own elaborations, in a pairing of cheese and honey to Murcia,†said the councilor.

Tastings this Friday, Saturday and Sunday

This street food market, under the brand 'La huerta de los 1001 flavors', hopes to attract thousands of Murcia throughout the weekend, promoting cheese and honey from the Region of Murcia.

Thus, various elaborations of the producers of the Region can be tasted at popular prices, from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

'The orchard of 1001 flavors: cheese and honey flavor' takes place within the framework of celebrations linked to gastronomic capital, and will feature public tastings and tastings every hour for the three days that will remain open to the public.

Cheeses from Murcia, main protagonists

The main protagonists of this market are the cheeses of the Denomination of Origin of Murcia.

With three protected products:

Fresh: unripened cheese, with engravings on its surface and a soft and lactic flavor.

Curing: compact and firm with a minimum maturity of 120 days.

Cheese with wine: with a maturity of 45 days and a bath in wine bark with DO of Murcia (Jumilla, Yecla and Bullas).
