Electric vehicles can now park one hour for free in 3,400 parking spaces in 12 city car parks (18/02/2020)

The Councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, the president of the Parking Association of Murcia and the representatives of 13 parking, presented this morning the agreement that seeks to promote sustainable mobility in the municipality.

One of the main agreements is that electric motorcycles or vehicles with a DGT label with a '0 Emissions' label can park one hour for free in different public car parks as of today.

In addition, all of them have a charging point and reserved and signposted places for this type of vehicles.

There are currently 12 car parks, which in total offer 3,400 rotation places, which are part of this initiative:

Some of these actions have been carried out thanks to the subsidy program to promote sustainable mobility and energy saving in the municipality carried out in 2019.

Thus, in the past year, more than 21,400 euros were allocated in aid for the installation of points for recharging electric vehicles in the Car Park of Avenida de la Libertad, La Vega, Saavedra Fajardo, San Andrés, Centrofama, Marqués de los Vélez Avenue , Simón García, and two at Acisclo Díaz.

This initiative aims to develop actions aimed at the protection of the environment and the sustainable development of the city of Murcia, through projects that promote sustainable electric mobility and that contribute, from the most diverse aspects, to the achievement of municipal strategy of adaptation to climate change and, more specifically, of the municipal electric vehicle strategy.

According to data from the General Directorate of Traffic, 49 electric vehicles were registered in the Region of Murcia in 2015;

in 2016, 68;

in 2017, 97;

in 2018, 137 and in 2019, 191.

Local Electric Vehicle Strategy

The Local Electric Vehicle Strategy is the most important milestone in terms of support policies for the electric vehicle carried out so far in the City Council, which includes a total of 50 measures that seek to reduce pollutant emissions in Murcia and which was recognized in 2019 with the 'Renault Award for best practice in Sustainable and Accessible Mobility', in the category of Public Administration.

The strategy, which was approved in 2017 as a result of a participatory process, aims to define the lines of work on which to implement measures to promote electric mobility and create a framework for collaboration with the most relevant local actors to join forces and move forward a higher rate and comprehensively.

The City Council continues to advance in its strategic lines of Clean Air supporting measures that allow raising the environmental quality for the residents of the municipality, achieving a decarbonized city through a significant reduction of polluting emissions.

Councilman Antonio Navarro explained that "electric vehicles represent an important environmental benefit for our city and that is why we work, as one of our main lines of action, in promoting this type of mobility. Electric cars are an environmentally capable bet to restore the air of our cities and minimize noise. "

In this way, the City Council continues to advance in its strategic lines of the Clean Air Strategy, supporting measures that allow raising the environmental quality for the residents of the municipality, achieving a decarbonized city through a significant reduction of polluting emissions.
