Academic experts, research and technology centers propose their initiatives for the diagnosis of the Circular Economy Strategy (17/02/2020)

More than 20 experts from academia, researchers, technology centers, technicians of the Autonomous Community and companies in the sector have participated today in the third sectorial table for the diagnosis of the Circular Economy Strategy of the municipality.

The Councilor for Urban Agenda and Open Government, Mercedes Bernabé, today opened this meeting with an intervention in which the process for the development of this municipal strategy has been contextualized to the attendees, in addition to its phases and purposes.

The celebration of this panel of experts has several objectives, such as identifying municipal initiatives developed in a circular economy, looking for new opportunities, detecting problems and barriers for the development of these actions or allowing an analysis of urban metabolism.

“In this way, thanks to the contributions of the participants, we will be able to establish a hierarchy of the problems and actions to be implemented in each of the six identified action axes: consumption, waste management, water management, sustainability of urban spaces , as well as mobility and mainstreaming policies, â€explains Mercedes Bernabé.

The celebration of this table is part of the second phase of the participatory process for the diagnosis of the Circular Economy Strategy, to which we must add the two already held: the first, which had the municipal technicians, and the second, in the participation of public concessionaires, companies and other entities.

“Public participation is an indispensable element for the correct development and implementation of initiatives that affect the future of our city.

That is why, from the council that I direct, we have convened various tables so that experts in the field can include their contributions, â€highlights Mercedes Bernabé.

The participatory process will be extended throughout the month of March by conducting a citizen consultation composed of personal interviews, a questionnaire open to the entire population through the website www.estrategiamurcia.es and the citizen's mailbox, also accessible on said portal.

Objective, purpose and result

The preparation of the Circular Economy Strategy aims to maintain the value of products, materials, services, waste and economic resources for as long as possible, minimizing the generation of waste.

Its purpose, therefore, is to transform the linear economy into a circular one, making it more competitive and sustainable, opening the way to new business and employment opportunities.

In short, the end result is the implementation of more innovative and efficient practices to produce and consume.

The Circular Economy Strategy is part of the Murcia 2030 Strategy and is aligned with the objectives included in the Murcia 2030 Urban Agenda, as well as the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
